Beware this Quake 3 arena download site

DaOld Man:
When I found out that Quake 3 has been released as a freebie, I thought I would download it and try it.
A demo of it comes with RetroPi download, but I could not find a full version for Pi, however I did find a download for the PC.
But the site I downloaded it from had a lot of spam, spyware, trojans, browser hackers, and even a couple of viruses packed with it.
I worked nearly three hours last night trying to get rid of that crap, I thought I had it all, but found two more this morning, so still not 100% sure.

The name of the site is Apunk a Games, and the link to the website is:

----http://www.apunkagames.net/2013/12/quake-3-arena-free-download.html---

I am posting the link here so you can positively identify the one Im talking about.
I do not suggest you clicking on it, however I think the link will just take you to the download site. Do not click on the download button on the site.
I found a CD version of the game on ebay for about 5 bucks, may just go with it, unless someone can give me a safe link to get the game.

Howard_Casto:
Quake 3 is ID software.  ID regularly releases their older games' source under a GPL, essentially making them free.

As you can see, Quake III was made open-source quite a while ago.  So just download the thing outright from a reputable torrent site... it's essentially free for non commercial use.
DaOld Man:
Thanks for the link Howard.
I dont usually download stuff from sites I dont know a lot about, but this site "looked" legit.
Sometimes it's not enough to let people figure out how stupid I am, I have to prove it.
Howard_Casto:
Eh it happens to the best of us.
JDFan:
Github seems to have it available still from 4 years ago when it was released under GPL license :
