Went fishing today.  Tire was shredded by scrap metal on the highway.  Adios $150 and two hours.

Get to fishing spot.  Rough water, nothing biting.  109 degrees.  Wife falling asleep in her chair = time to go.

On the way home, a truck blew its tire and spectacularly spun all over the place.  Missed me by six inches.

Vigo:
Had one goal this weekend, change the timing chain on my car. Power outage all weekend from a Friday storm. Not that I needed power to open up a car, but I sure as hell needed light. Apparently, the electrical in my area is pure crap because there were power lines down all over within a 1 mile radius of my house. I had a high voltage line dangling above my driveway. Hot weekend, no AC, and I had to keep the kids outside but somehow manage to keep them away from the dangling death-wire outside my front door. Yeah, I had a hard time focusing on my one task.

I did manage to at least get the engine ripped open to do the job. Had to remove the valve cover, front wheel, part of the fender and main drive pulley to gain access, but I did it, but I had to make a makeshift spring tensioner to remove the drive belt. The timing chain kit I ordered didn't come with replacement bolts, and when I opened up my engine, the bolts holding the chain retaining piece were trashed. They were specialty bolts. Gotta figure out a plan fast, because I have a road trip in a week.

Rental Car?

So my anti chuff is the Offroad Thunder I bought stopped booting, no beeps. Pulled the PC out of the cab, took it apart, cleaned everything. Put back together no boot. Replaced power supply, no boot. Replaced RAM, no boot. For giggles I was moving the fan connectors around, turns out the fan header for the CPU fan wasnt giving any juice. New CPU on the way. And by new, I mean a PII 350MHz Slot 1 CPU($23 shipped from feebay) Luckily I have a fan header splitter already. If this new CPU doesnt do the trick the cab's getting MAME'd

If you can't get the OEM ones fast enough, a machine shop can make them for you.
They can test the hardness of the metal and use an appropriate metal.
Of course you'll pay out the ass, but you'll be on the road.

EDIT: also look at local bolt suppliers.  I was surprised to realize there was more than one local business who sold nothing but nuts, screws, & bolts.
Vigo:
Thanks! That is not a bad idea. I did some research on some auto forums and there was a guy who made a reinforced version of the bolt I needed. Surprisingly, he was local. I thought I had it licked. Sadly, the guy passed away 3 months ago.  :( His grandson was taking orders in his place for the last couple months, but never shipping out any product. Who the hell scams people using their departed grandfather?

Come to think of it, there is a Fastenal store just a minute away from my work. I have never paid it a visit. I might start there today.
