I admit I had to Google "Tate".  Never heard that one before.

I'm so busy this summer, I have zero time to invest in my PS4 or arcade games.  I want to be 25 years old again with no responsibilities!  I could get home from work at 4:00 and play games until I went to bed if I wanted to.  Now I'm lucky to get an hour of free time...and if I do, I figure why bother.

Came home tonight with exciting plans for bondo, sanding and painting and instead was welcomed to a waterline leak under the sink.  It's Pex too.   :banghead:

First time I heard of a pex leak. That stuff normally seems foolproof. Hope it is an easy fix.

Sink leaks suck ass.  I didnt notice mine until the kitchen sink leaked into the basement and when I pulled everything out from underneath the sink my cabinet bottom had begun to warp.  Fun times.

Pex is super simple to work with. Now, the tools are a little unweildy and way overpriced. I generally use the regular crimps but for tight spaces I have been using Waterline pinch clamps. Similar idea but the tools are way smaller and a heck of a lot cheaper.

I went to Lowe's last night because I didn't understand what I was looking at.  I didn't know you could use compression fittings with Pex.  Fortunately a plumber was in the isle and butted in to our conversation.  He walked me through what to buy and how to replace it.   I told my wife that it was too rainy to do plumbing so I haven't started yet.   :lol

My leak is at the red arrow in the attached picture.

Heh... compression fittings are the whole reason to use pex... I'm not sure why anyone would bother with the other methods.  You are going to open that up and find that either the plastic collar the goes inside the pipe is mis-aligned or the little metal washer that goes around the pipe has cut through it.  It's a 5 minute job, tops.

Pex is great.  Like Howard said its usually the fittings that are causing you the problem.

Don't misunderstand me I love Pex.  I ran it all through my basement.  But I borrowed the crimping tool when I did that 7 years ago.  When I first saw the leak I assumed I would need to cut into the Pex and buy a tool so I could crimp a new fitting.  Live and learn.

Went fishing today.  Tire was shredded by scrap metal on the highway.  Adios $150 and two hours.

Get to fishing spot.  Rough water, nothing biting.  109 degrees.  Wife falling asleep in her chair = time to go.

On the way home, a truck blew its tire and spectacularly spun all over the place.  Missed me by six inches.

The Summer 2015 Anti-Chuff Thread

Had one goal this weekend, change the timing chain on my car. Power outage all weekend from a Friday storm. Not that I needed power to open up a car, but I sure as hell needed light. Apparently, the electrical in my area is pure crap because there were power lines down all over within a 1 mile radius of my house. I had a high voltage line dangling above my driveway. Hot weekend, no AC, and I had to keep the kids outside but somehow manage to keep them away from the dangling death-wire outside my front door. Yeah, I had a hard time focusing on my one task.

I did manage to at least get the engine ripped open to do the job. Had to remove the valve cover, front wheel, part of the fender and main drive pulley to gain access, but I did it, but I had to make a makeshift spring tensioner to remove the drive belt. The timing chain kit I ordered didn't come with replacement bolts, and when I opened up my engine, the bolts holding the chain retaining piece were trashed. They were specialty bolts. Gotta figure out a plan fast, because I have a road trip in a week.

Rental Car?

So my anti chuff is the Offroad Thunder I bought stopped booting, no beeps. Pulled the PC out of the cab, took it apart, cleaned everything. Put back together no boot. Replaced power supply, no boot. Replaced RAM, no boot. For giggles I was moving the fan connectors around, turns out the fan header for the CPU fan wasnt giving any juice. New CPU on the way. And by new, I mean a PII 350MHz Slot 1 CPU($23 shipped from feebay) Luckily I have a fan header splitter already. If this new CPU doesnt do the trick the cab's getting MAME'd

If you can't get the OEM ones fast enough, a machine shop can make them for you.
They can test the hardness of the metal and use an appropriate metal.
Of course you'll pay out the ass, but you'll be on the road.

EDIT: also look at local bolt suppliers.  I was surprised to realize there was more than one local business who sold nothing but nuts, screws, & bolts.

Thanks! That is not a bad idea. I did some research on some auto forums and there was a guy who made a reinforced version of the bolt I needed. Surprisingly, he was local. I thought I had it licked. Sadly, the guy passed away 3 months ago.  :( His grandson was taking orders in his place for the last couple months, but never shipping out any product. Who the hell scams people using their departed grandfather?

Come to think of it, there is a Fastenal store just a minute away from my work. I have never paid it a visit. I might start there today.

We had to put one of our dogs to sleep on July 3rd, he was a great little rescue dog we had since 2002.   And my Dad spent all last week in the hospital with congestive heart failure... been a pretty ---smurfy--- summer.

Where I worked previously, people would send me an email in the middle of the afternoon asking me to take care of some annoying thing that wasn't my responsibility.
Then they'd leave the building right after hitting send so I couldn't argue with them.  I don't like rewarding that kind of behavior, but my sense of responsibility always made a sucker out of me.  I never could just let things go to ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- for the sake of teaching one person a lesson.

Yeah, I recently switch jobs and the old one still won't let go.  Now they want me to interview replacements, which puts me in a weird situation.  Why did I quit?  They were broke and about to lay people off.  I knew they couldn't make payroll.  The twice a month threat to make me part time had escalated to twice a week.

Those interviews ought to be very interesting unless they bring in candidates that are desperate for paycheck and don't ask questions.

All that being said, there are a few individuals that are diverted straight to voice mail or safely tucked away in a dusty mailbox folder.  Being free of their clutches is a big relief.  Highly recommended.

Yes it definitley does suck.  My wife and I had a rescue for a year but had to put her down because of seizures.  It's hard but they way I see it is you gave your dog 13 years that he may not have had if not for you and your family.

I'm also sorry to hear about your father.  It's hard to see someone in your family have to go through that.  I have to spend a lot of time in the hospital due to my wife so I understand.  Stay strong for yourself and those around you.

Thanks for the well wishes!   My dad is home from the hospital and doing better, just some medication changes for now.  He had a quadruple bypass in 2001, so he has a history of heart issues.

I hope your wife is doing ok, hospitals are not fun places.

This is the second dog we lost this year, we had to put our Boston Terrier rescue to sleep in January because of  a brain tumor.

Yeah she has chrons so her condition is chronic.  She will probably spend the rest of her life in and out of the hospital.  But she is very tough for what she goes through.  I guess you have to be.

On a lighter anti-chuff note it looks like the PIXELS movie is going to seriously suck.

Games: Asteroids Deluxe | Atomiswave | Centipede | Championship Sprint | Defender | Donkey Kong | Dig Dug | Frogger | Ikari Warriors | Missile Command | Pac-Man | Pole Position | Robotron | Spy Hunter | Tempest | Super Mario Strikers

The first thing I remember seeing him in was an independent movie called "The Station Agent".
He was good in it.  I liked the movie, but it may have been just because it was a break from the usual mass market crap movies.

He was also good on the TV show Nip Tuck.

EDIT: after watching the trailer, the station agent was far from an independent film

...But, I watched Willow the other day and he was in the background.

Elf, Nip/Tuck TV show (awesome show but not because of him), The second Narnia movie, X-Men: Days of Future Past

Not a ton of roles for a 1/2 a man , but his movie career is going better than mine.

I was holding out a sliver of hope that this movie would have some redeeming quality. At least the visuals are neat.

Minor thing, but still chuff reducing....

I get home from work and the house smells like it's been hosed down with disinfectant.  Doesn't look like anything has been cleaned.  All windows were closed.  Smell is strong and everywhere.  Can't localize it.  Nothing looks spilled under the sink where cleaning products are kept.  It was disturbing.  Did something bad happen here and get cleaned up before I got home?  Upon a second investigation of the cleaning products I noticed a barely audible hiss.  It stopped when I touched the lysol air deodorizer.  Ugh I hate this smell and it's going to take a while to go away.  Throat kinda burns too.

Yup that Lysol stuff makes me gag.  Seriously even if just a little is sprayed around me I get dizzy and feel like I am going to vomit.  When someone brings a can to work for the crapper I will throw it away.

It's that old world throwback to where some people think the way to get rid of a bad smell is to douse it in perfume.  I assure you it isn't.  Charcoal, baking soda or some other odor absorbing substance is the proper way to do it.  Febreeze does a decent job.... if you don't ruin it by getting a scented bottle.

During winter time you can get Febreeze cranberry frost, it actually smells good.
If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

Come now, how are you supposed to identify the pot smokers if they stop leaving Febreeze bottles everywhere?

Been a big anti chuff week for me. Don't want to get into details to save you all from a wall of text, but I have been so stressed out I am actually developing an "Airplane" style drinking problem.
