New Pedestal Project Monitor in Console
« on: March 18, 2016, 05:39:10 pm »
I've been playing with the idea of doing a pedestal cabinet that would use a projector, but also have a monitor embedded in the control panel.  In normal mode, it would have the marquees and/or instructions for games.  In a pinch (no place to project) it would be used for play.  I would use a 22" monitor which would be under plexi.

I've sketched a couple themes...one being steampunk (I feel like I've already done this so probably wouldn't do this). The other is an idea I've had for one based on vintage space program stuff...using the "skeleton astronaut" concept.  The helmet would be inside the column...lit with some spooky lighting.

Here are the rough sketches and a render of the control panel top...it would be 48" wide and 22" high.

I would use lit buttons and trackball...possibly joysticks.

Probably wouldn't be very comfortable to look directly to one's right or left to see the screen. (When running on the control panel screen)

I totally agree...not ideal to look at it as the main screen...I was just thinking about a situation where I just don't have anywhere to project (if I took it somewhere).  I mostly think it would be great as a second screen with projector play...
The lines on the bottom of the space theme are based on the fluting on the old mercury capsule exteriors...

I personally prefer your "steampunk" version better. Especially like the copper pipping around the edge of the CP. Do you think it would be stable lacking a wide base?

I'd just design it so you could easily mount a screen to the back.

But go for it with the projector idea.  I've been waiting for someone to try it.

I flirted with the idea of a projector cab. I think it was my first post here. I gave it up when I realized that overenthusiastic play would make the on-screen image jump around.

In other words, make that pedestal a heavy one.

So far 2016 is the year of the pedestal.

pbj be like...

Shaking/movement is a valid concern.  I've been looking at an anti-vibration mount that may help. I need to do some experimentation.  I have some friends who get a little wild when playing Golden Tee.

Maybe get a Tv and lift system like the Whisper Quiet and mount to the pedestal
