First build: Front end question

Moving onto the front end now!!  We're getting close!!

I've viewed a bunch of videos on the various front end apps and did a search on this forum.  Seems like everyone has their own preference to what they like. 

I love Hyper spin but looks too crazy to set it up...   

I really like Emulation Station. The videos I've seen on its set up seem very easy. However, all the advice on it is for the Raspberry Pi and not for Windows.  Any advice on using Emulation Station with a PC laptop running windows?  Does it run just as nicely on a PC as the Pi?

The big problem with Emulation Station is that it is a little limited in terms of configurability.  It is great as far as "install and run" though.  Then you have something like Mala, which I like (wish there were a Linux version, though).  Uber configurable, but maybe confusing for the neophyte.

It was seeing Hyperspin in action that got me excited about building my cab again but I had the same thoughts about it looking extremely complicated. While it is pretty much infinitely adjustable and I know some people have a hard time getting it set up, I had it running a pretty basic setup in about an hour by following one of the tutorials. The best way to see which one you like best is to try each of them. This isn't a race and when you are dealing with free front-ends there really is no harm in trying them out. It may only take a couple minutes to know that one or two of them won't work for you. Good luck.

It's not that Hyperspin is complicated as much as it's just a piece of ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---. It has memory leaks, interferes with the behavior of programs it launches, etc.

I like Hyperspin but it does take a little work. n3wt0n is right about trying a few out.

Atomic FE is simple to set up but is no longer supported but is no longer supported and is nothing fancy. 

Recently I've been playing with attract mode on my Mac and I like it. It's also simple to set up.

Attract mode can now import Mala themes (Bata) and its available Mac, Win, and Linux.
