How high is your cp?
« on: March 01, 2015, 11:57:05 pm »
So I finally had a chance this weekend to put some pencil marks down on mdf and start drawing the profile of my cabinet. The mockup controller I have been playing on has been sitting up at a whopping 39.5 inches. I started looking at plans online and it seems like most cabs have the top of their cp somewhere in the neighborhood of 32" - 34" off the ground. I think I may end up putting it about 36". I'm comfortable enough here, and it is also the height of the xevious machine in my office which I am very loosely using for size reference. Im just curious where everyone else like theirs for comfortable play.

My Dynamo cab CP is sloped from 36.5" - 39.5" the height seems OK when playing if it weren't for the angle. My least favorite feature of my cabinet has got the be the combination of that height cp and the 19 degree slope.

The cab I have been building has the CP at about 960mm. It is a low boy style though. 960 feels fine to me. I think as long as it's not crazy high or low, the exact height isn't critical. after all, when you think of the old arcades, they had people coming in from say 10 years old up into their 20's that's quite a range of human heights, all happy to play on the same size cab (",)

My cp height is somewhere in the 36-37" range.
My cab is a comercialy built cab and I find standard cp heights to be just a hair low so I built it up with a 2x3 base to get the whole cab up a little higher.
I'd say the right height for the cp depends on what you find comfortable.
My son uses a small step stool for playing and it works fine.

I built my cab around my height. I got a bars stool sat in it and ran some measuring tape to the floor and figured out a comfortable height for playing while sitting. Then stood up and made sure I was comfortable at playing while standing. Kind of a weird way to do things but now it is perfect for me. I don't care about anyone else because it is mostly me playing on it.

a whopping 39.5 inches.

Mine is in that range.  I just went with what was comfortable.
The CP box which is only 7" deep (wide?) rises an inch from front to back.
The CP top is 9", so I guess it has slightly more rise front to back.

EDIT: mah cab dimensions
(the side profile of the CP is odd because it has a weird sliding CP.  I like standing in the middle when playing 1 player.  If building something more standard, I'd probably have the area under the CP shaped different or would have the sides of the cab extend out to cover the sides of the CP)

I have 3 commercially built cabs. One has a flat CP at 38". The other two have sloping CPs around 36" back to 37". I like these heights but it really depends on what feels good for you.

I usually tell people to head over to a local arcade (rare these days) and bring measuring tape.  Stand in front of different cabs and when you try one that feels comfortable - measure it.

38.5" in the front of a 1" sloped cp. I would have preferred 36 but I wasn't thinking of the 2" casters when I was measuring out the pieces to cut.

Still works just fine though. Most of the time I'm sitting on 29" stools which are a great height

i can measure mine tonight when i get home, but if memory serves me correctly, they are both around 38" at the front.  Most actual cabinets are lower than that to accommodate children...which make them uncomfortable for me to play for an extended period of time.  i made mine fit me, and figured my kids would adjust  they sit on bar stools to play and it works out well.
