You can probably fix that. Do you have a soldering iron?

Yup, I thought the solderwick and empty vias were a clue.  Sorry, I just had to give a snarky answer.  Like I said I have two ports on order.

Still waiting on my v2 to come.  I never got past tinkering with front ends on the old version.  Pretty much always ran into a snag with whatever project I had.  Hoping I have better luck with this one.

Also signed up for this.  I'll believe it when I see it, but Windows 10 on a Raspberry Pi would be pretty sweet.  Who knows maybe could get Hyperspin(with bells/whistles turned off?) or some other front end running on it.

I'd be willing to bet cold hard cash that Hyperspin will never run on a Pi2. Other FEs, however...

I signed up for that already. Be interested to see what comes out of it.

Run at all or run without pulling out your hair?  To be honest, I never tried turning off all effects in Hyperspin.  And I guess at that point, what is the point vs another FE

Probably at all, since it's so Flash-based. Anything less than a Core2Duo and Hyperspin = GTFO. And even at that, you need to turn stuff off.

I'd be happy with something simple and configurable.

Think I had Hyperspin on a core2duo at one point, don't remember having to turn anything off.
But I see your point.   Having spent so much time configuring that, would be nice to reuse.

emulation station was decent, may just try that again on v2.  It did lock up trying to download the game info for too many games.  I think I tried NES but never got it all set up.

I hear they're redoing the FE in PiPlay, which is great, because it currently looks like ass.

The version of windows 10 for the RPI will be the tablet version.
I have no idea at all how different that would be from the PC version & if you can just re-compile apps for ARM and you are on your way.

Update:
Got the pi 2 in yesterday, hooked it up and tested it. Hooked it to my 55" HDMI TV. Need to order the AV cable so I can hook it to a regular monitor.
Installed Raspbian Pi (NOOBS) on an 8 gig Toshiba micro SD card and was good to go.
Second pic is a little blurred.

Nice.  Let us know what you do with it.
Mine is coming in today(hopefully).  Will probably try Plex on it first then emulation station again.

OK, Ive got to get an a/v cable and maybe the hdmi to vga converter for it, so I can use a regular monitor. Its not easy using it as a computer on my big screen TV, and I don't have a smaller tv with hdmi on it.

hdmi to vga requires a converter from digital to analog and they usually run about 30 bucks,  now if you have a dvi monitor a hdmi to dvi stays digital and you can get them on ebay for about 5-7 bucks.

They're much cheaper than that on Ebay.

I'd be interested to know whether you can use an HDMI to VGA converter, and still create custom screen resolutions and refresh rates. If you can, then this latest iteration of the Pi might finally be a viable alternative to a PC for a cabinet.

Grasshopper,

Gert van Loo  (one of the guys who designed the PI) makes a GPIO to VGA kit.
http://www.raspberrypi.org/gert-vga-adapter/

Don't know about Replacing PC's but I would think at this point the pi make all the Chines 60 in 1 boards pretty unattractive.

Yotsuya,

This is a like to a bata versions with better front ends.

People who made there own custom front ends for Pipaly.

I ordered a R-pi 2 to my mothering laws but it did not make it before she left to visit us. Hope you guys post lost of cool projects before I get my hands on one this summer. And Does any one have the NEGEO emulator running on the new PI? If so how is it and did you use a universal bios?

I am going to try running final burn alpha. Haven't loaded anything to microsd yet. Here's where I'm at with the console project. Awaiting a few parts in the mail before purchasing an enclosure.

How about GNGeo for NEOGEO? I know final burn alpha plays neogeo as well but it would be good to know how they compare.

Do you see any loading screens full of text?

Can it handle Stepmania?

Still testing it, but yeah, you do see Linux loading screens,  especially after quiting.

I don't have Stepmania, but it can run Quake III Arena, so I would think so.

IF you don't mind waiting for a few weeks for it to arrive you can get them on EBAY from China for about $7 -- I just received one of these the other week for the GameStick I had bought on clearance and it works fine for connecting the GameStick to my Acer Monitor and also has the audio output for a cheap set of Logitech speakers. ( I originally got a $5 HDMI to DVI convertor but that lacked the audio and the gamestick didn't have separate audio outputs and doesn't support the $1 USB Soundcard from China either ! ) -  Linkie to the one I purchased - ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/221588431594?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&var=520447402104&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT )

Note : THe one I got is Female HDMI since it was for the Gamestick -- For the Pi I believe you'd need Male HDMI but they have those also for $5 ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/HDMI-Male-to-VGA-Converter-Adapter-With-Audio-USB-Cable-1080P-for-PC-Lucky-/371246740114?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&var=&hash=item567007b292 )

Hm... I'm going to also need you to test the proper shutdown operation when hooked up to a HDTV USB port as the power source.  I've currently got a dedicated flat screen running stepmania with a laptop and it'd be swell to eliminate the laptop...

You'll have to search the PI forums but there is a way to direct most of the console output to "null" so you just see a black screen.

I just got one of these in:

Which looks to be the same device & it works really well with the RPI1 & my Android stick's.

Probably the same, since they both use the same versions of Mame4All/AdvanceMAME and romsets.

If anyone wants to use the composite AV jack, here is the method to switch it from hdmi to composite out:
https://bhavyanshu.me/tutorials/force-raspberry-pi-output-to-composite-video-instead-of-hdmi/03/03/2014/
Also, on a "regular" av cable (I used one from an old video camera I had lying around), on the cable when plugged into the Pi, red is video and yellow and white are audio.
Yellow is video on anything else I have ever tried, don't know why Pi swapped the red and yellow, but it's no big deal as long as you remember it.

I've got a recommended 5v 2A charger powering the Pi2. What does the USB port output in terms of Amps?

I'm 90% sure that the 5v GPIO pin out puts what ever Amps lest over from operations. I don't know what the USB can out put safely. Who many amps do you need? I can post a question on the Pi forums to find out.

Case arrived. Panel mount cables are a little too bulky and inflexible. I need to put some thought in this. Is it safe to remove the sheath/shielding on these cables?

I wouldn't unless you plan on cutting the down to size and repacking.  Have you checked out smaller cable like the ones from adafruit?

I have my Pi2 hooked up to a PC monitor, via a cheap HDMI to DVI cable, it looks real good.
Also put PiPlay on a new micro sdcard and been playing around with it.
I like being able to put the roms on it from my desktop PC, via Ethernet cable.
Although haven't figured out yet how to transfer the snap images.
Also hooked AV to my TV to test the audio. It works but I had to turn the TV up pretty loud. Any suggestions on what i need to do to boost the audio output?
