What type of quick connects are these?
« on: January 29, 2014, 10:08:04 am »

Saw the connector on the top left of this picture in ChanceKJ's pristine Flynn's arcade build.  My question is what kind of quick disconnects are those pictured in the top left and where can I get them.  I know you're there Scott.  Wow me with your vast knowledge.   ;D

You should be asking Neph, not Scott. Neph is the king of Molex.

It looks to be a 4 pin atx power connector but the one on Chances build will suit me better since it is smaller and I don't have a lot of room.  But I would appreciate help for either Scott or Neph.

They are Molex Micro-fit connectors.

I'd post a link, but I'm on my phone. Part numbers can be found in the Two-headed Beast thread.

Got it straight from the horses mouth Neph.  As soon as you responded Chance sent me the part numbers.  Putting my order into Digi-Key right now.  Thanks for all the help.  And as for you Scott....

Glad to see someone took care of this while I was AFK for a few hours -- crisis averted.   :laugh2:

I know this is slightly off topic, but is the only way to crimp these type of connections using the special molex hand crimper, pin by pin, and then inserting into the plastic? I did some searches but couldn't find an exact answer.

I can definitely see the advantage of using molex quick connects to swap panels or other things, but seems like a lot of extra work. Maybe I'm wrong and it's easier than it looks?

You do need a certain crimper, but it doesn't have to be Molex's gold plated tool. A little extra work? Yes, but it's easy and well worth it.

The Molex tools will give a perfect crimp, but are pretty expensive.

There's a good list of reasonably-priced ratchet crimp tools/jaws here for a variety of pins and QDs.

I know this is an OLD thread, but I just realized I didn't post the Molex part numbers in case someone comes along and finds this conversation.

Huh... How about that.
