Seriously?  Cause I'd probably do that.  Only thing is my kids talked me into a Battletoads/Bad Dudes cab and I already had Scott Prior print it out.  Think its already on the way as of today.  :(

ya rly. I'm already a bad enough dude to play the game

 :lol

admit it. you rubbed your nips a few times after seeing that pic.  :laugh2:

I rubbed someones nips but ended up breaking my monitor in the process.   :D

went to put woodgrain vinyl on the cabaret cab just now because the paint looks ugly.

on came a massive gust of wind and ripped the vinyl in half just as i had it about halfway on the cab. Ripped everything right off. including the paint underneath

I don't think im going to bother repairing this. it looks like a complete mess. I'm really starting to see just why so many people just buy kits these days.

the luck i have is unbelievable

probably give the wood back to mother nature. Factor in the freak gust of wind and you can tell the skank obviously wanted it back pretty badly

I'm just quickly realizing that unless i get hundreds of dollars worth of tools and more woodworking experience, i'm never going to have the kind of cab that i want.

North Cuba?  That's crazy.  I live in Southern Canada.  But in all seriousness I would have to agree with everyone.  If your money isn't too tight and you can swing it I would continue on with the build.  At least yours wasn't self induced.  I was smart enough to leave the usb cord on my Kade encoder.  The CP is a tight fit on my build and I thought the cp wasn't fitting but the cord was too close to the exterior panel of the cab and I ended up busting off the usb lead of the encoder.  And I did this the same day I finished wiring the CP.

don't think its worth the hassle at this point. I also tried to cut the cp and bezel again and that didn't come out all that great either.

:applaud:  I agree. It's far from lost, 404.

I'd be willing to sell the empty cab. As much as I love it, there's a lot that I'd do differently if I had another chance to build it.

just a joke although i do think your mini street fighter cab is great.  :applaud:

I figured. I'm just looking for ways to keep building. I have no more room for arcade stuff so I've got to sell something or dismantle and rebuild. I've already made a decision that my cocktail cab is getting gutted this spring.

Back on track though... Keep your build, man. Maybe take a little break from it, come back with a clear head and less hate for it?

it's def worth persevering, - i'm keen to see this finished, this style of cab is on my personal list!

if you don't keep going, you'll never try it again (seen that with some friends)  :hissy:, and you'll never get that cab you want or end up paying stupid money for something you aren't 99% happy with (even if you build your own "perfect" cab there will still be something you would do different later..  :banghead: )

seriously keep it up - sand it all back and have another go (wood is really forgiving), maybe try and track down someone locally that can give you some pointers on the tools or might even route some of the parts you need (e.g. the speaker grill and screen mount) - their bound to be someone keen to show off their skills  ;D

thanks for the kind words everyone but i started this project simply as a means to see if i could actually do it with a simple circular saw. Now I see that it isn't quite possible, at least not at the level i was hoping for. I've really had enough at this point and I'm going to call it quits on this project.

I'm just going to save up go ahead and pick up a little pre-fabbed bartop kit in the next few weeks and consider myself done with this whole cab building debacle.

If you don't mind my asking, would you share what dimensions you were able to deduce from the build? Been watching and sad to see it end this way. I loved that DK Jr build on KLOV, too.

I worked with Haruman in getting dimensions together off a severely water damaged atari cabaret last year, and he was able to get a cad program made up. Someday I hope to get a couple reproduced for projects I'm working on.

If you are within distance of him or Rick they can get a new cab cut to keep your project going. Or maybe point you out to a good cnc solution. Can't speak for them, though.

But sharing some refined measurements would definitely be step in not seeing this project die completely.

Unfortunately neither Rick nor Haruman are anywhere near me.

As for the dimensions, of course. I never posted them here because there just didn't seem to be much interest in them and they are very incomplete. Not really sure why anyone would want them really.  A competent woodworker should have no problems deducing the rest of the dimensions. I will be posting up the dimensions for the speaker placement and the control panel later. I have those dimensions too but never did draw out plans for them.

I actually put up the prelim dimensions on klov some time ago to help a guy that wanted to build one but also in hopes to lure some of the guys that had original nin cabs to contribute. The guys who have one never posted further dimensions in order to help those that wanted to make one.  :dunno

some personal notes:
- I made my cab a little different in order to create the unit out of  a single sheet of 49x96 sheet of 3/4" MDF.  The dimensions attached are based off of the original, not my personal modifications.

- the original cab uses a combination of 9/16" and 5/8" wood. You will need to adjust your plans, especially the base to accommodate your wood thickness

- The dimensions attached are to scale from various threads on klov. the rest was extrapolated from guess-work and from examining the sketchup model available.

- the sketchup model available online has been confirmed to be very inaccurate. use it as a final resort.

- I did not leave a vertical gap between the top and side panels on mine. You should though. Looks lots better. Judging from pictures of the original, the gap is anywhere between 3/16 - 1/4 inch.

- There are absolutely no accurate dimensions for any of the back panels. I guessed them all. If you want my measurements, I'll be more than happy to measure mine out for you.

- I found that the top panel tends to impede vision a bit. The plans for them are accurate according to owners i found on Klov but you may need to adjust these to your own liking.

- The vision issues could also be attributed to the angle of the control panel and monitor bezel i created. Nobody has put up any confirmed dimensions for the angle.

- I guessed the angle of the control panel and monitor as 3 inches or so from the top of the back half of the cab.

- My second cut of a control panel and monitor mount, I made it into a horizontal oriented setup. I found the angle to not be high enough for horizontal games. You may need to adjust the angle.

- because i did not know the angle of the monitor setup, I did not cut the top vent holes on the back support slab. Instead, i cut a similar design on the back door panel instead.

- There are no dimensions for the base available. If you plan on having rear casters on the cab, just use your best judgement in creating it. I made mine from cheap 1x3 lumber. If i had to do it again, I would use 1x4 lumber.

This project was completed some time ago. I ordered speaker covers and T molding from Twisted Quarter some time ago (my review of their service was of course removed from the forums).  I had to trim some of the top area back due to visibility issues. In the end i took off about 1.5 inches off the top and raised the control panel/monitor angle up quite a bit due to the fact that i was using an LCD. This was the last picture i took before i mounted the joystick, threw in the encoder and finished up. The cab is in good hands- gifted to my neighbor.

In the end i didn't like the way it looked or came out. at least someone else can appreciate it.

Did you build a riser/base for it like the original? Just curious if that is why the viewing angle needed to be compensated. It still looks like it turned out nice to me!

Sorry it didn't work out for you the way you intended. However, I spy a Midway cabaret to the right on the Nintendo cabaret. Is that a new project?  :)

Like an infinity mirror?

Or an etched mirror?
