Rainfall shower head in the UK
« on: August 23, 2013, 07:51:31 pm »
So I have this awesome 14 3/4" x 10" Rainfall shower head as pictured (ebay picture not how it is installed currently, mine hangs over the shower)

It is attached via an adjustable arm as pictured

I can not describe accurately how awesome these rainfall shower heads are, I converted everyone around me to get them and they are not disappointed. If you don't have one, get one! You can get them on ebay pretty cheap but just stay away from the LED ones as they are stupid loud and the LEDs don't last long. I got my shower head for a steal, $25 shipped and then it was $18 for the adjustable arm.

Anyways on the the issue.

The lady and I are going to London for 6 months and the flat we have waiting for us has one of those "shower head rails" as pictured below.

This will just not do, not after experiencing the wonder that is a rainfall shower

I was hoping there was someone that could help shed some light on fitting my shower head onto this type of unit without modifying anything (This is key!!). My google foo failed me in my attempts to find an adapter or something.......

Depends on their water pressure.  I'm sure you can get some plumbers tape and make it fit, but the second picture is probably a Triton shower, and those are electric.  I call them taking the piss showers, as I'm used to power showers.

Personally I wouldn't bother as you will end up breaking it, and your landlord will end up asking if you was taking the piss  :laugh2: attaching it.

Just go outside.  There is a good chance it will piss down (its a bank holiday right?) this weekend, and you can get the same effect for free.

Enjoy your stay, but I bet you a buffalo nickel that you will be homesick within a week.  Also be careful London is not a safe place, so watch your back.  Seriously.

Want to make it better?  Figure out how to remove the flow restrictor!   ;)

I can leave earlier if I need, I will also be flying back for business  for a few weeks so I am not too worried. Have been bored out of my mind lately here so it can't be too bad.

The shower is just one of those rail ones with the hand spray thing I think. Was just hoping there was an easy way to disconnect the hose from the hand and put on my arm extender thing. If I am gathering it right as well the PSI is really low in the UK? So even if it was to fit and not fall over or something cause of the weight the power just wont cut it?

On the london side of things, how is the center of london? Just as bad?

Good point, I should have put it into the "Everything Else"

There is a wealth of knowledge on this site I wouldn't be surprised if there were 1 or 2 plumbers here.....maybe.....maybe they are brothers....get it?

If you are asked where you are from, say you are Canadian.  Americans are not safe in the UK, as there are more immigrants in
London and they hate us for all different reasons.  Keep your head down and keep a low profile. The police are useless. Get home as quick as you can.

Seriously.

Be safe.

I totally sympathize on the British perspective , but when the shoe is on the other foot, it is very difficult, as you are stranger in a foreign country, you are unaware of the dangers.  Knifing and gangs has been in the news recently, with gang organization via social media.  The London Riots is a prime example, and one should be made aware of that.

My sister lives in Harrow-on-the-hill and a tourist was mugged just the other day.  Frightening.

I would give London a wide detour and visit Manchester and the Lake District instead, if have to.

Total crap ... let's not go down the route of comparing crime / gun / riot / knife / mass shooting figures, please - but I have a feeling you'd like that.

This isn't a country you care, love or were brought up in, so my advice would be to leave your uneducated comments to those of us who do.

Oh, and the fact you mention people go to Manchester instead just shows how little you know about GB.

Look at this lady, completely loving it.

I care more about the state of my shower than what has been the topic the past couple of posts. I appreciate the warning of course but I do enough research into the areas I visit and take proper precautions. Wouldn't let things like this stop me from visiting strange lands nor pretend I am from another country to "fit in".

So about that shower head debacle.......Anyone have one of those shower head hand things and could tell me if they heads are removable?

The hell is that thing?? And how does that help me attach my rainfall head?

Looks like it is moot as even if I can remove the shower head off of the "rope" thing then it wont be able to hold the weight of the new parts without issue. Damn it. Maybe I can find another flat that has a stationary head. Looks as if this hand shower head is very common in europe.

UK shower-heads are a standard size, but I really don't understand why this is such a deal breaker for you.

It's a shower  ??? I don't get it  ??? ??? ???

Showers come out of the box on the wall and then I guess it's up to you what you attach to it.

UK shower heads mount to 1\2" threads same as the US. That is not the issue, the issue is that they are connected down by the faucet and are hanging on the shower wall via some pole instead of directly mounted on the wall above head height.

You obviously don't have a rainfall shower head

Well all I can tell you is that they a different everywhere.

Neither of those is like my shower, as mine has a controller box to adjust temperature etc...

I have a great power shower, but I wash myself and get out!

I think you should get your place to stay, bring all your shower gear and hire a plumber to plumb it all in and a decorator to re-do everything after. Then when you leave, un-do it all...

Can you find the nearest YMCA and use their showers?

My local gym has power showers that can take skin off.

People over here take baths more than showers, some don't do either.    :lol

Seriously rainfall shower head in the UK?

All it ever does is rain, why invite it into your bathroom?

What about something like this?  The shower head is actually held up by a wall mount but the water is fed by the hose.
http://www.qssupplies.co.uk/bathroom-furniture-shower-taps/81744.htm

Edit:  Did some more research.  The above part # is:  am158041.  Found info about it here (page 40 of the brochure):  http://www.nmbs.co.uk/supplierCatalogue/pdfFiles/Croydex%202010%20Small.pdf

Try doing a Google search for that part for resellers.  Also, it appears as if you can change the adapter to have your own shower head on it.

Hope this helped!

After reading this thread last week I ordered an 8" round rain shower head from the Home Depot.

http://www.homedepot.com/p/Glacier-Bay-Drenching-1-Spray-8-in-Downpour-Showerhead-in-Chrome-8465000H/202530360

It arrived on Thursday and this thing is awesome!

As mentioned in the home depot reviews it is okay in stock form but is excellent if you drill out the water saving restrictor.

Yea definitely get rid of the restrictor

Also, I told you guys, these things are awesome!

But dgame, I recommend you take that one back and get a slightly bigger one like mine. I found it at a really good price, and you must have the adjustable arm as well so that you are directly beneath it. (mine is a 14" one though)

Here is a link to both

$25 - 12" Rainfall oval

$23 - Adjustable Arm - You can get this for $18 at Home Depot though

I convinced my buddy to get them installed in his house and he went ballin with the master bathroom. Upgraded his 1" prison shower head to a 24"x24" god like shower head. I am jealous to say the least. His down stairs bathroom has the same one I linked a minute ago though.

No doubt bigger is better. I went with the smaller one as it was cheaper and the shower I put it in is small as well. I like that I able to turn on the shower with the curtains open and not wet the floor.

If I get one for a larger shower it would likely be a bigger one.

A rain shower heads is a must for you hard working come home all greasy and grimy types.

This is so true. After coming in from being completely covered in dust after building shite all day it is a perfect way to be rid of it.

This is an understatement....let's just say that it is easier to have two people in a shower without one hogging all the water when you are under one of these bad boys

This music would be totally at home on any cave shump.  That would be a totally bad ass soundtrack for raining (see what I did there) fury down on some baddies.

Cory, I don't live in the UK, never have, but I have visited numerous times and been drunk in some really terrible parts of the city and can tell you this... you're going to have a great time!  Enjoy it.

When I compare parts of Iraq, Detroit, Afghanistan, Columbus Ga, Egypt, Bulgaria, and Laos that I've visited with the UK I'd say that the sliding scale is absolutely terrifying one end with positively charming on the other.  Guess where the UK falls?
