Anyone use Sanwa sdm-18 buttons?
« on: August 22, 2013, 11:25:56 pm »
Ok, so I am committing the mortal sin of cramming three buttons into a CP area that should really only hold one, and am considering the sanwa sdm-18 buttons (18mm). Anyone ever use them? Would they be ok for main buttons if space is really an issue (and it really is)?
Completed projects: Pac bartop (Plug & Play), 30th Anniversary Pac cab (MAME), Point Blank (PS1), Centipede (arcade hardware- light restore), VS. Super Mario Bros (arcade hardware- light restore) Tetris Cocktail (SNES), Arcade Classics upright (60-in-1, then MAME), Multi-Raiden (arcade hardware). Pac Man vs.(Gamecube),

Working on: Pinball Re-theme, Homebrew arcade arena shooter

Man 18mm is tiny.

I have 24mm ones for admin.  I mocked up a panel to try them as the main buttons.
It felt fine for one or two button games.  I'm sure it would be fine for a game that occasionally uses the third.
On fighters, it felt like typing on a keyboard.

I've never had a sdm-18, but from the pictures it doesn't look like it uses they same type of switch as the 24 & 33mm buttons.
That concerns me.  Might just have to order one and see what the action is like.
If it feels like a momentary pushbutton from radioshack, it's not going to work very well as an arcade button.
