Pinball on a computer. Any good?

DickTurpin:
Is there actually any good software for Pinball on computers.

I remember Pinball Dreams Fantasies were great.

Is it any good in a cab?

Visual Pinball 9.x and Future Pinball are the two I use atm.  Building a cab just for those too.

On my most recent MAME cabinet (OK, I built it several years ago) I put in some buttons to serve as pinball flippers and the like.  I didn't like any of the pinball games at all.  So now, I never use those buttons.

HOWEVER, I have more recently revisited this, and I think that what it is for me that I don't like is that I am looking at a screen that is the size and position for arcade games, not pinball.  I also just have buttons, no plunger, no nudging, no force feedback, etc.

I REALLY want to build a full size cabinet with all of the bells and whistles some day.  Problem is that I know myself too well and while I could always say "I will start out with the basics and add on later," it will never happen.  I will go all out from the start and I honestly just can't afford that right now.

So I guess my question is, it depends...  spoot is on the mark with "simulation" type of pinball applications.  Those, in my opinion, were destined for full size cabinets.   For a different experience, a lot of people love Pinball Arcade by Far Sight Studios, but it isn't available for Windows.

I agree with spoot. Future Pinball (using Physics 2.5) and Visual Pinball 9 are the best bets for a home emulation/PC setup.

I have both on my recently completed (March 2013) cabinet. I love both programs but honestly play more Future Pinball than VP.
There are some EXCELLENT table designs available. I'm partial to recreations of real world tables.
