Arcade Cabinet Mockup Software
« on: June 13, 2013, 01:55:48 pm »
Hi guys,

I would like to create a mock up arcade cabinet view showing what the cabinet would look like with marques and stuff. I'm not planning on getting fancy so something basic that i can use to make a mock up in 5 minutes or less that is free to use would be useful. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Quacker Blaster

Take a look at googles sketchup software. A lot of people use it for mockups

Sketchup is awesome. I use it to prebuild many of my woodworking projects and its godsend. Being able to prebuild in CAD allows you to figure out many aspects of the build.
Sketchup really found a good balance between design and accuracy. The 3d warehouse allows you to import user generator 3d content which also saves you time.
You can also import Jpegs to overlay on 3d models which is great for choosing artwork for your future arcade cab build.

a tablet is a "content consumption" device
a computer is a "content creation" device.
without a mouse and keyboard, 3D design will never flourish on a tablet.
two different beasts with two different purposes.

sketchup is what you are looking for.

I don't necessarily agree with that statement.  Designers pay a buttload of money for Wacom tablets just to have a touch-like input device on their pc.  The problem right now is that the accuracy on a tablet computer is crap... ipad included.

The latest Wacoms have monitors built in and they look pretty awesome. My guess is they would be quite expensive.

i wouldnt call consider a wacom tablet (pen tablets or pen displays) in the same category as ipads.
wacoms began as drawing stylus tethered to computers. they are require a stylus and are pressure sensitive.
wacom is a content creation device. ipads are a content consumtion device. i'm sure they will evolve into where wacom is today eventually.
