Has anyone every used the AMD A series for their cabinets? It would alleviate the need for a graphics card plus they push some pretty high clock speeds. Any advice on going this route rather than something like a dual core? or AM3+ ?
To my knowledge, nobody with an APU has weighed in.
I'm sure it's as good as anything else for 2D games in MAME & 3D games in Zinc & M2Emulator.
Not so sure about 3D games in MAME, Supermodel or Demul.
MAME doesn't utilize video cards for much aside from post-effects anyway, but the 3D games are extremely demanding of a CPU.
I wouldn't expect it to run games like Ridge Racer in MAME, but I guess we won't know until someone with one weighs in.
EDIT: Just remembered that Vtivti tried an A-10 out with Ridge Racer and it fell just short.
So close but no Cigar!
All ok in 1 player but as soon as you add in the helicopter, or more than one other car it lags. Not quite enough but very very close.
Looks like an i5 3.2 for me for my RR cabs.
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,130988.msg1356875.html#msg1356875That's one of the most demanding games that is fully playable if you have enough horsepower though.
For most users it would be enough. It should run the original NFL Blitz at full speed (if not, turn down the resolution in the service menu),
but would probably fall short of Gauntlet Dark Legacy.
Still unsure of other emulators like Demul which utilize the GPU. It would be good to see some testing done.
