Bravo. Amazing work, and I especially like that you've tilted the display back to make it easier for people to see and select.

I'm impressed with the amount of thought and effort that has gone in to this, but surely it's just a "project" for personal use?

There are commercially available similar  machines and even these sell only in small numbers.

Digital machines are generally less popular and second-hand ones are cheaper than old vinyl playing jukeboxes. The appeal of those is for many, just "nostalgia."

Most people these days seem to want "on the go" music, or else there's a lot of young people walking about using "old-fashioned" deaf aids.

It's all about convenience. I've got two vinyl jukeboxes, two vintage jukebox wall box/adapter/iPod/hi-fi systems. But more often than not I just stick a memory stick in the TV and play any of several thousand mp3s I have through the TVs soundbar.

I don't mind if you don't like my manners.
I don't like them myself, they're pretty bad!
I grieve over them on long winter evenings.

Looks like he has it sited in a bar. I know Jukeboxes are still quite popular in pubs in the U.K. well the few pubs that still exist that is.

looks great. i'm still not a real fan of that big silver coin mech you are using, it looks a little out of place with the nice wood work.

maybe just a simple slot with some brass or copper plate around it.

EXAMPLE:

http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Polished-Stamped-Brass-Scalloped-or-Oval-Coin-Slot-Covers-Sold-in-Pairs-/360853745260

then you can use an internal coin acceptor and the outside looks a little cleaner.

Nice work. After looking through from your first one to the last couple I can see the refinements that only comes from making a few and some hindsight! I like the way you've used the the flat sheets and added on (something I should have done with mine) - but we all learn. And added a front opening door for access (assembling mine now I wish I had of done this).
Thanks for the pics - Pete

The wood work is fantastic.

I'm still not a fan of that big chrome coin mechanism. it sticks out like a big chinese thumb on there.

you have made everything else, it looks great...nice retro style...why not make a brass or copper plate that you can insert a coin into instead of the big chrome coin acceptor?

These are some amazing jukeboxes.  Touchtunes has nothing on these.  Although I do not especially love that type of coin mechanism, that's a good choice.  There is a lot going on with your jukebox, so having stand out may not be a bad thing.  I would hate for someone to not play it because they could not find the coin slot.

Unfortunately this type of coin acceptor  is only acceptable in terms of price and reliability available on the market in my country Romania.
In the future I will try to change the front plate, but anyway I think I'll try  integration this coin acceptor into a metal panel, to see what ideas come to me.
As the basis of these latest models will remain in production, which of course I will make loots of improvements, I hope that gradually bring the best possible level of finishing and a more pleasant appearance.
Anyway after 2years of work, information gathered from everywhere, many  searches, and a lot of mistakes, that  is my level. Unfortunately the poor technical equipment does not help me too much,  and all work including design and execution are made by one man .... me. And that's too much, in my opinion. I would have liked to have a partner as passionate as me and try to improve t hese devices and who knows  to make a small business out of it. Unfortunately at me,  in Romania are very few passionate and probably also the only person who manufactures this handmade jukebox  devices. But who knows, maybe someday .... ;)

How do the coin acceptors work with a PC? I'm in the process of trying to work out if a simple coin slot and switch would do the job or do I need one of those. Any info appreciated as I've seen them listed on eBay.

How do the coin acceptors work with a PC? I'm in the process of trying to work out if a simple coin slot and switch would do the job or do I need one of those. Any info appreciated as I've seen them listed on eBay.

you need some kind of encoder to interface to the computer to either emulate a keyboard key press or some kind of data your program can pull from the port.

these coin acceptors simply close a switch when a valid coin is inserted and accepted.

this "switch" can be wired to a microcontroller or other interface to let the computer know what's going on.

a popular encoder/microcontroler is the "kade" microcontroller. (http://www.kadevice.com/) it plugs in via USB to your computer and depending on how it's programmed will insert data to your computer when it's inputs are triggered. (mainly it emulates a keyboard or a joypad) so if your software expects you to press "X" to register a coin, you program the microcontroller to spit out an "X" on the inputs you've wired the coin mechanism to. that way, when you insert a coin, the computer gets a keypress of "X" and the software issues a credit.

how you will program the microcontroller will depend highly on the software you intend to use and what the computer needs you to do to issue a credit.

for instance coin1 on my software is "F1" and coin2 is "F2" so i have the microcontroller to "press" the correct F-key depending if i put a coin into one slot or another.

you could just as easily program it as the "space bar"...or "5" or "backspace" or whatever.

You can use this for coin acceptor http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Kiosk-computer-control-board-with-coin-acceptor/400351_449721525.html
or simply this
Software wich i used is called AlbumPlayer and is a great jukebox software.

How does the coin acceptor/relay tell the software that a coin has been inserted? Do you have to send wires from it to the keyboard encoder and if so how?
