Do they make a ball top for a happ competition?
« on: January 17, 2016, 01:18:43 am »
I'm looking to get new joysticks for a new arcade and I like the happ competitions but I'd like to get ball tops. Maybe even light up ball tops. Do they exist?

As an option...

What is everyone's thoughts on those Zippy sticks they sell all over the place, but specifically at GGG.

That's awesome.

Is the only option for a light up ball top to BYOAC?

I came in here to recommend Tornado Terry's as well. I have the Ms Pacman stick which is his modified Competition stick.

No light-up sticks there though.

IIRC, with Happ Comps, yes.   :dunno

If you can work with a different stick, there are prefab solutions. (Paradise Arcade has a good selection)

About a year ago, a guy on here was organising a group buy for some custom hollow shafts for the Suzo 500. I had a conversation with him about them, and suggested that he should consider adding some extra grooves, and instead create some universal shafts that would work with either the Suzo 500, Happ Competiton, or Happ Super.

He agreed to do this, and I ended up buying six of them.

I've no idea whether he still has any left, but if you're interested, here's the link to the thread:

If he doesn't respond to a PM then I might be able to dig up his email address for you.

I'm have 26 NOS Wico micro switch 8 ways that might be perfect for a RGB LED conversion. I've done the LED conversion to a Happs Super with U360 parts for control. I kinda like the rubber grommet of the Wico, and think if the shaft was keyed to the ID of the grommet (to prevent rotation) no line jack would be necessary. 4 pole line jacks are somewhat rare and expensive. Might make an interesting project.

Hey Lew, I still have my RGB Versaball top from GroovyGameGear.com.  Similar to this here , but hollow and RGB:  http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_reviews&products_id=229
I ended up never using it in any projects.  It's colored exactly like the Electric-Ice products.  PM me if you are interested and make me an offer.

Here's a video I did of it years ago:
