GroovyArcade live CD problem (Newbie inside)
« on: March 28, 2013, 05:12:18 pm »
Hello,

I have downloaded the last GroovyArcade live CD build (i686 version) and i try to install it on my Naomi cab but my screen seems didn't like the process.

Each output selection gives some disturbing effect...

vga 1 :

vga 2 :

Dvi 1 :

Boot :

My screen is a sanwa 29e31s, and my video card an Ati 9600pro.

My video have only one vga port and one dvi port, so the choice for so many connection is strange and foremost weird when the dvi is functionnal whereas it's not plugged in.

With the naomi system plugged in the screen works perfectly.

Thanks for the help and sorry for my bad english  :P

Hi moerin,

I believe that's a 31 kHz monitor, so you can't use the default 15 kHz options. Try the SVGA/VGA/LCD option and check if it works. If you succeed, then setup the video in gasetup as "arcade_31".

Steps to create a log:
 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt
 - Attach resulting romname.txt file to your post, instead of pasting it.

Press Escape as soon as the splash screen appears.

Ok, I was afraid it wouldn't work because probably the SVGA/VGA/LCD is using a resolution above 31 kHz, this will have to be fixed for the next release.

By now, what you can try is picking the 15kHz option that worked the best for you, probably the VGA2, then before setting it, edit the option (I believe it's done by pressing "e"). Then in the kernel line (the long one), find the option "video=VGA-2:640x480ec", and just remove the "ec" in the end.  Hopefully this will enable a normal VGA resolution.

Remind to keep pressing Escape when the splash screen appears, once you have installed it you'll be able to disable the splash permanently. You can also remove the "splash" option from the kernel line mentioned above.

Ok i remove the "ec" and unfortunately, it changes nothing.

I try dvi port instead of vga port and i have different results but always with a twisted picture

Try adding an 'vga' mode to the kernel line, probably 'vga=786', check this: http://pierre.baudu.in/other/grub.vga.modes.html
