New jukebox freeware
Kfam:
Thanx for the feedback. Sorry for the lack of screenshots, but I work full time during the week and didn't have time to really work on the site. I'll try to make a better one over the weekend.
I will admit even to me it looks a little plain. I want to eventually skin it, but at first I kept changing the look of the program so much that making a skin was pointless (would have to make a new one a lot). Then, after that, I was kinda on a roll of adding new features before my next party that I haven't really fooled with making a skin yet. Even when I do the skins will be pretty simple. Since I'm mainly making it to be able to be used by keyboard only, I don't have any buttons. I do plan on getting some type of skin in though. Now for the suggestions:
1. Do you mean the info for the current song playing at the top? Thats sounds like a real good idea. I'll make an option for complete customization (ie. you can use %A for artist etc and even add your own text). I also plan on use ID3v1 tag info more. One of the main things I wanted was the genre limit and the tags were the easiest way to do that. I haven't really used them since then but plan to (optionally of course)
2. Not sure which screen you mean. Do you mean after you bring up an album?
3. It's funny you mentioned that. After I had already set up everything and uploaded PartyBox, I thought that I didn't have that in there. Obviously at first with only me using it there was no need. I'll try to get that in soon. A picture in the background is basically what the skins will probably end up being. Like I said I have no buttons so the only thing to skin right now are the backgrounds.
4. Yeah thats on the todo list. I've noticed the need for that too. As well as a "Page Down" feature for albums with a lot of songs (for when using only a keyboard)
5. I would like to do this. Right now I have it set up to mark the selected song (you can set it up in options). I am using visual basic though and so far haven't used any 3rd party controls which I would need to do since the normal listbox doesn't support what I would need to do. I'll try to see if I can't find something else.
6. Once again, an issue of me setting this up for myself at first. I'll look into it and see what I can do (should be easy, just depends on which new features I wanna work on first)
7. What all do you consider selection-keys? Right now pressing the page changing keys "Left" and "Right" will bring up the album screen.
Like I said above, I'm using visual basic.
Once again, thanx for the feedback. PartyBox will always be freeware, however I'm not sure if I want to go open source or not.

I haven't reied it yet, but can you use it in an arcade cabinet, i.e. using the cursor keys plus no more than 4 other buttons?
Thanks

I was trying that last night, and unfortunately it doesn't seem like that's possible. At least I didn't find a way in the 10 minutes I tried before my 2 year old jumped on my lap and starting banging on the keyboard.

No, not right now. I could look into setting up a way to select songs that way, but you would still need more keys and a mouse for the initial set-up. PartyBox can be set up to start playing at start. It can even remember it's exact state, like what song was playing and where it was at in the song. It can even remember the selected songs. I'll see what I can do, but now is the time to suggest your preferred way of navigating with your set-up before I make my own. Right now albums are selected by row and column, using A,B,C for rows and 1,2,3,4,5 for columns. So for the 3rd album on row B you press the keys you have set up for B and then 3. After that the album comes up and you use up and down to select a song with the select key. The main problem you would have there is picking an album. Just off the top of my head, I could set up 2 keys (one for the row and one for colums). Pressing either would bring up a box with A1 in it and short instructions. Then, pressing the row key would change A to A,B, or C and pressing the column key would change 1 to 1,2,3,4, or 5. Once you set it to the album you want you would then press select to bring up that album. That way would require a lot less key presses then just using left an right to select an album (which is another way I though of). Let me know what you think. You still have a little bit of time before I start working on PartyBox again, since I'm working on the webpage right now. Soon there will be plenty of screenshots showing all of PartyBox's features. Well, except for the videos. Since videos are overlayed they don't get captured. PartyBox does play videos fullscreen or mostly full screen (depending on your settings) though since that was something else very important to me.

Ok, I've finished the main page and screenshots, so I went ahead and put them up. I'm still working on more though. Also, the best way to see if you like PartyBox is to download it and try. It's free, and you don't even have to sign up or anything to download (I hate when sites do that).
