Regular white LEDs never work for GI.  Makes everything blue.  It looks worse in photos than in person, though, so that probably isn't quite as bad as he says.

That is a little harsh looking in the pics.  Bummer to get so many LED's if you don't like the look.  It would be interesting to play with though- can you put color condoms on the insert lamps?  Can you just put them on GI or just inserts and use incandescents elsewhere?
