Just found this. Want to say nice builds. I'm up in the air on what I want to build next. Either a virtual pin or a dedicated gun cab.  My first vpin will probably have all the bells and whistles but if/when I get around to building the second I might have to do the tv turned sideways in the backbox idea. I like the idea of no borders as well and would work great with the older games (non dmd variety). Might help it look more realistic and I've really grown a fondness for the old EM games. Thanks for showing that tidbit and keep up the good work on your builds.

I dove into my 4th pincab project today. Project Mystical Close Encounters. Here's the parts list and a teaser photo:

Did that mystic lower cab come with any backbox hinge parts?  If so i could use them.

I have the hinge post plates, but I smashed out those wedge shaped blocks they sit on.

Are the hinge parts pin or sleeve? I have half of each hinge (can't remember which half but I can check.  I'd be glad to buy them off of you if it turns out to be what I need.  nobody sells those hinges and bally only put them on a couple of games.

I got the same Solar Rider cabinet and wanted to know what method you user to get the metal side rails without damaging them?

it takes some doing to get them off. gently pry underneath and pushthe metal back in place to back the nails out and get clearance under the heads.  pry the nails out.  end nippers are great for this.  then pry carefully to get the rails off.  if you kill them they are replaceable.  about $70 from Marco Specialties or other pinball parts suppliers.

I pried the nails out just a little bit and them grabbed them with a small vice grip and unscrewed them. My Galaxy project thread is here:

I'm the  one with the same Solar Rider cabinet and have a few more questions...  What did you use between the glass and the Masonite, some kind of "H" channel track?

Also where did you put the speakers in your Mystical Close Encounters built? I'm going with the same setup and using a LCD for the DMD....it looks like you use a solid piece of glass in the  back box door.

The H-Channel is actually an Aquarium hood hinge. The speakers on the Mystical are pointing out the top of the back box and the original speaker is connected to the amps sub connection.
