Ernest Borgnine RIP

I don't at all dislike him. I didn't say unknown; I recognized him instantly. I said none of us knew his name. Which I think is almost certainly true, or at least almost none of us knew his name. He's a fine actor, and he seems like a cool guy. It's just that cool people die by the thousands every day. And it's not like any of us, not a single one of us, ever in our entire lives went out of our way to watch something because we knew that Ernest Borgnine was in it. And if we saw a movie poster that said Ernest Borgnine, none or almost none of us would know who that name referred to. If this thread didn't show up like two days after the Andy Griffith thread I wouldn't have said anything. But since it did, and since he's just an actor (aka, it's not like Clint Eastwood died) . . . it seemed like an odd thread--like we're going to have a BYOAC vigil for every actor that dies.

Shrug . . . bad taste, perhaps.

OK, I'll rephrase - *I* knew his name :)

You gotta stop including me in your generalizations. I specifically have watched older movies because Borgnine was in them. He's not an actor of your generation, we get it. You can feel hollow next year when Lindsey Lohan ODs.

I don't know how old you are, but he was in his nineties when he died. He won his Oscar in like 1954 or 1955 or something. He wasn't an actor of your generation any more than mine. I'm sorry that you feel hollow without Ernest Borgnine. I suspect you of melodrama, and likely total fabrication of seeking out old Borgnine movies because you're such a huge fan. But maybe you're telling the truth. I take back all the bad things I said.

I just turned 39, but I appreciate old films and cinema. I don't care that you don't care Borgnine passed away, but I took umbrage with the "Who cares, he didn't do ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---" mentality in your comment, which obviously isn't true.
