Normally when a guy makes a static complaint about stuff like this, he gets a "Yeah, that sucks dude. Hope you find a chance to see the movie." Not here I guess.  :dizzy:

I was thinking the same thing.  I got where you were coming from.

I assume that PnR must not be getting enough traffic.

shmokes:
Two reasons. One, the tone of the complaint, especially from Mike, was not one of disappointment, but one of entitlement. It wasn't, "Those lucky ---daisies--- in Asia get to see it a week earlier than us." It was more along the lines of, "Why do those Asian ---maternal-smurfs--- get to watch OUR movie before us."

Second, is that this sense of entitlement and outrage is over something so silly: not being able to see a movie until May 4th instead of April 27th. A movie, mind you, that you've lived happily without seeing for your entire life up until this point. Granted, this second issue is only really an issue because of what I see as the slightly distasteful entitlement thing above. I totally get being excited and impatient for something new. But the sentiment in this thread wasn't one of so much of disappointment but offense and, like, nationalism.

Btw, Vigo, I feel your pain. I'm the father of a 5-year old girl! And I was in school (i.e., earning no money) for the first four of those years. Prior to her birth my wife and I saw everything that was remotely interesting in the theater. In the five years she's been alive I'd guess I've been to the theater maybe 10 or 12 times and prob 6-8 of those were kids movies. Paying for (or even finding) a babysitter sucks.
Vigo:
Well, if that is how you interpreted it, I can understand where you are coming from. I swear the sense of entitlement out there from is just sickening. I deal with claims at my company and I gets my blood boiling the ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- I see. Just the other week, I read a claim letter from our former VP of Marketing. He only worked for us for a couple months, turned out to be horrible at his job, and was canned within 3 months of starting. He had a severence agreement that we would continue to pay him full salary for a year, more 200k over 12 months for not working. On the 11th month in, our company filed bankruptcy and therefore could not pay the guy his last 15k. So this guy files a claim with the court and the letter he wrote was this sob story about how he is dirt poor and had to sell his home to feed his kids and without the money he is entitled to he will have to live on the streets. He was begging for the sake of his children to have that money that my evil company was taking away from him.   :dizzy: IMO, the guy shouldn't have gotten a nickel in severance to begin with anyway.

Back on topic, I really didn't interpret Mike's statements as entitlement. I dunno. To begin with, Mike always struck me as a guy who would much rather work the night shift at McDonalds than go on welfare if the situation arose. Entitlement just doesn't come to mind with Mike. I guess I also read his sentiments as more disappointment with Marvel/Disney. For me, Disney making that move doesn't surprise me, but easily Marvel. Stan Lee is a fascinating guy who loves his fans, I am sure you probably appreciate him for being the pioneer in making superheroes much more flawed, but he has always been the king of giving fans exactly what they want. Stan isn't at Marvel anymore, AFAIK, but let downs are few and far between. I doubt Marvel called the shots on this one, but I think Mike more than anything felt let down that we can't see the movie at the same time as the rest of the world.

Oh, and I figured you would know exactly what I meant about not being able to see movies with a kid. I agree, finding and paying for Babysitters does suck. It's even harder without family in town. I wouldn't trade being a dad for anything in the world, but jeez you have to give up a lot of personal freedom. Right now I am forging a plan to hunt down a good drive in theater to be able to go to movies this summer. I hope this plan pans out.

I find that the wealthy suffer far more from irrational feelings of entitlement than the poor. Most poor people work super hard for very little. It cracks me up that rich people have successfully framed poor people as spoiled little entitlement queens. Not that Mike is rich (maybe he is, maybe he isn't), but I don't think the welfare thing is a very good barometer for entitlement.
