Especially if they didn't think of that alternative way to accomplish the same thing. --- End quote --- No, engineers get pissy when they have to figure out the problems caused by people who have that mindset, when in reality they possess only a superficial understanding as to why things are done as they are. |

Doctors and Engineers seem to always think they are the only ones who understand. I will admit, I have been on both sides of this. I've come up with solutions to complicated problems that people ignore, thinking they have an easier solution simply because they don't understand the underlying issues or the damage they are inadvertently doing with their shortcut. And I have been schooled by people who are otherwise looked at as idiots when they come up with a solution to a problem that is orders of magnitude simpler than my solution as well as more effective. In an engineers eyes, when you solve a problem or build something that works without their help, you just got lucky. Because as you just said, there is no way any of us non engineers have more than a superficial understanding of why things are the way they are. For me, my greatest regret is having studied physics for several years in high school and college. I was so much happier when I didn't have a clue how the world really worked. |

A jug is what moonshine came in before they started using jars. --- End quote --- Don't google images of podium. (the thing you stand on when receiving medals NOT the thing you stand at when making a speech which is a "lectern" but everyone says podium.) |
