Anyone have a Retron 3
« on: December 02, 2011, 12:34:59 pm »
So my oldest son (13) is really into the older system games.  My old original NES maybe works 10% of the time, so was thinking that the Retron 3 would make a decent xmas present.  It plasy NES, Snes, and genesis cartridges.  The reviews seem to be mixed, so was hoping to get some insight from people here that may have some experience with it.

Thanks

Have you put a new 72 pin connector in your NES?

+1 - easy fix; will be like-new.  Also, clean your carts. Simplest way is the windex on a q-tip method (Google for other methods).

As for the Retron 3: It seems like a good idea but most (all?) of these clone systems have compatibility problems with certain games (ranging from "barely noticeably graphic/sound glitches" all the way to "just will not work".) Keep that in mind.  For that reason alone, nothing will ever be better than original hardware.

Yeah, I'd say just get the original hardware. I've never tried a Retron 3, but I have a RetroDuo that plays NES and SNES. Compabibility is mostly good (though Super Mario World of all things just refuses to work on it ::)), but I've had a lot of problems with crashing and difficulty loading, mostly on SNES games. And the worst part is, when a game crashes, it typically erases the saved games if there are any. :hissy: All of my SNES games work 100% fine on the original hardware, I only got the RetroDuo as a NES replacement and to cut down on the number of devices by the TV. I wish I had just gotten a regular Nintendo made NES.
