STERN TRANSFORMERS
yotsuya:
I think the point behind a Wizard of Oz pin is that it'll tap into two potential markets- pinball collectors AND Wizard collectors. There's probably more of the latter than there are the former. Have you seen some of the Wizard of Oz collectables out there? I think the market for this one is older people with disposable income who probably love Oz and grew up with pinball, so the two are a natural fit. It's not a bad move for his first pin.
ChadTower:
The point behind the WoZ theme is that they already owned the rights to make coinop amusement games with WoZ characters. It's not like they went out and chose that based on market research.

True, but I still think their risk is minimal when you factor in the Wizard of Oz collectors market. If my mom had the $$$, she'd probably add this pin to her collectable dolls, plates, and other crap. If they made a Gone With the Wind pin, I GUARANTEE she'd buy it.

Nobody ever succeeded by developing over the top niche products to the desires of consumers who don't have the money to buy them.
Watch, the next game will be Deal or No Deal. :dizzy:

Might be using that same bonehead logic that success in one area of coinop means guaranteed success in another... that's why we got stuck with Wheel of Fortune and Big Buck Hunter...

I have a 2 yr. old, so we go play redemption games often. I've yet to see one of those Wizard of Oz machines. I'd like to, but maybe they don't get out West.
