Complete redesign due to TV failure

This thread was originally called "5 Inch CRT Bartop (early plans, may not come to fruition)" but due to the TV messing up (it now only has a bright line up the screen) I have redesigned the entire thing since I already had purchased the controls and the Jakks plug n play.

See this post for the new project!

Like many around here I've got ideas, perhaps too many ideas.  This one came about when I saw a 5" color CRT with A/V inputs at my local Goodwill.  Snagged it for $2.25!  A couple weeks back I also picked up a Jakks Pacific Pac-man, Rally-X, Dig-Dug, Galaxian & Bosconian plug and play with a totally useless joystick from the Goodwill for a couple dollars thinking it might end up in a project at some point in time so I've already got everything but the controls as far as electronics goes.

I was originally hoping to rearrange the electronics in the TV to allow for a cab that was not quite as deep as it is going to have to be but realized that wasn't an option when I cracked the TV open and realized the tube and neck board actually extend pretty much to the back of the casing.  After drawing a little something up in SketchUp I don't think it looks as bad as I had anticipated.

So here's what I've got.  The picture of the assembled Jakks is a random one from the internet because I didn't take a pic.  The PCB is what it looks like stripped.  In the picture of the decased TV you can see there's two boards in there, I'm guessing the vertical one is all tuner related and am considering removing it if I decide to decase the TV.

[edit]
forgot to point out that yes, the TV is displaying Ms. Pacman.  With the Pac/Rally/etc being stripped I used a Ms. Pac/Pole Pos/etc for testing.

Nice.  I've found little TV's at the Goodwill before, but only in B/W...

Very cool idea. I have one of those little TV's I got from GW myself for just this kind of project.

You mentioned pulling the tuner board out of the TV. Does this look like an easy thing to do? I have considered that but wasn't sure I wouldn't ruin the TV in the process.

Also, how do you plan on powering the Jakks board? Are you going to keep it battery operated or solder in a wall wort type psu? Or...?

I'm not entirely sure what kind of connectors hold the two boards together.  I gave it a little tug today and it didn't budge.  If I do decide to take it off it may require some desoldering which I'm fairly capable at.  Powering the Jakks board I haven't figured out yet.  I tried a wall wart that I had lying around and it was working with the exception of a fat opaque white line running down the screen.  Perhaps I'll try another some time in the future but I don't really know yet.

So I've done a little more SketchUp work.  Sometimes I wonder why since I don't really plan on pursuing this at the moment but here it is anyway.  The joystick I tossed in there is a random one I found in the SketchUp warehouse.  If I do build this I'll have to make sure everything is going to fit and possibly do some redesign.  So here it is, not too crazy about the sideart but we're still on Rev0.2  :P

;D Awesome find on the color CRT TV!  It might work if you made the cabinet a micro replica with the monitor at a slight angle.  I say go for it!  I think it would be pretty cool to come up with a combination graphics package for the Marquee, kick plate, bezel and side art that would encompass all five of those classic games.   ;D
