Recommend a Pac Man Joystick Grommet supplier to me!
« on: April 04, 2011, 03:36:10 pm »
Did a search, did not find much recent info on this: I have a early (1982?) Pac Man Control Panel I am refurbishing, and need a new rubber centering grommet. Anyone have recommendations on where to get one? I know they are out there, just looking for good fit on the stick and shopping experience.

Bonus question: Anyone know if just the ball-top/shaft is available somewhere? Vinyl ball-top is a bit more worn than I would like.
Completed projects: Pac bartop (Plug & Play), 30th Anniversary Pac cab (MAME), Point Blank (PS1), Centipede (arcade hardware- light restore), VS. Super Mario Bros (arcade hardware- light restore) Tetris Cocktail (SNES), Arcade Classics upright (60-in-1, then MAME), Multi-Raiden (arcade hardware). Pac Man vs.(Gamecube),

Working on: Pinball Re-theme, Homebrew arcade arena shooter

+1 on Bob Roberts.
He's easy to deal with. if by chance you can't get it through him, I believe Mikes Aracde also carries them.

A little wear on the ball may not be such a bad thing, when they were new they would actually wear a hole in your finger.

Ha! That texture was painful when new! My mom actually bought pac-man (R) band-aids for my pac man blisters when I was a kid!! Now thats love!!

You can also salvage grommets out of Wico "Command Control" joysticks originally made for Atari/C64/Sega consoles and computers. Should cost you <$5
SHEEET! For some reason I read rubber grommet and instantly thought Wico.  WRONG! Pac stick is not Wico!

No uh-ahh on the Wico grommet. They are not even close to the same size shaft. Midway sticks are smaller diameter and the grommet is not as stiff as a Wico. Pinball Resource had some that looked real close to Midway grommets, and they musta been the real deal 'cause they didn't stick around long at 5$ each.

So are the grommets at Bob Roberts not for the stick used in a Pacman, because the pic sure looks like the wico centering grommet

"Midway Centering Grommet" is what you want and what he sells. Sorry for the confusion.

The link I posted is what you want, "centering grommet" under Midway.  It's the only grommet listed on that page...

Also, yes, they look like the Wico grommets, grommets are grommets... the only difference is in the hole dimensions and size.
