hey guys, i have been using mame 0.108 along with MALA 1.0 RC7 for a while with little to no problems, but i couldnt get Mortal Kombat 2 to keep the volume settings (it was always quiet).

anyway, i dontloaded the latest version of mame (0.117)and ran mk2 from the command line and it appears to have fixed the volume issue..however i cant get it to work with MALA.  i also downloaded the latest version of mala (1.0 RC9) and it does the same thing...when i try to select my mame executable, it gives me an error saying "unable to get the file version)

is there anything I can do?  i really want MK2 to work.

also, i noticed that the newer mame takes longer to start and has an annoying "loading" screen...can i get rid of that? or is that the price i have to pay to have mk2?

is there maybe somethign i can do to get mk2 to keep its volume setting on the older mame?

just for more information.   the sound problem with MK2 goes away after mame .115.  any version before that it will not hold the setting.  the problem is mala doesnt seem to recognize any version newer than .108 for me.

ok, i got it working. I wouldnt call it fixed, since it still throws that error every time, but by manually editing the mala.ini file with the paths to my new mame, it is working fine.

i dont know why it is doing that, but i guess it isnt that big of a deal not that it is working.  the best part is now my MK2 keeps the volume setting.  :)

of course, a few other games quit working after upgrading mame, but after a little messing around, i got it working.

I was getting the same message.  Thanks for the workaround!

the me from 3.5 years ago is happy to have helped :)

thinking back, i'm not really sure what i did to fix it completely.  i think i removed everything, downloaded the latest mala and ended up switching to mame .124.
