computer spec question

I'm converting an xmen vs sf cab to mame using a jpac, and soft15, but I just wanted to make sure my old computer will be a 95%er (is that even a term?).  I'd like to be able to play the chd 2d fighters and such, but not concerned with 3d fighters.  Wish I could get gauntlet legends to work, but I ain't forking out that cash.  I've been reading and seems some go with an older computer, and some go balls to the wall. I just want to make sure I get what I need, or don't buy what I don't need.

Here are the specs of what I currently have:

Athlon 64 x2 Dual 4200+
3gigs of ram
250gb 5400rpm hard drive
Radeon HD 3400

I'm either going to get another computer for personal use, or build/buy one for MAME/emulators in general (nothing beyond snes/psx)

I have spec'd out an ok computer for me for $300.

from what i've see that will be fine for most games i run a 3800+ with 4 gig of ram and a 8800 ultra video card.  and i can play almost anything except games like gauntlet legends. the only problem I see with your setup is hard drive space the current rom pack for mame is around 207GB and the extras pack is another 5gb leaving very little for your OS and emulators and if you plan on running PSX your not gonna have the room with that HD.  I have a 500gb drive and it works great and you can get them for really cheep these days your looking at about .10 cents per gb

Thanks for the reply.  I'll probably just get a new 500gb for the MAME and swap over the 250 for my OS in the new computer.  I will have to look into the extras pack, as I've never heard of it until now.

If you're not interested in games like DDR, Popnmusic, and guitar freaks, you can drop that chd rom set by over 33 gigs.

The 'extras' that was mentioned are things like artwork, sound samples, pictures of the cabinets, screenshots, etc.

I don't plan on doing much dancing, and I plan on trimming down the games anyways.
