Gutted could mean nothing but the wood and side art or it could mean no board but includes everything else (monitor, control panel, power junk, marquee, etc). If you can sell off the stuff you don't need, you can offset some of the cost of the cabinet. If it's completely gutted (wood only), I'd think $200 is pretty steep. On the other hand, you will spend that much plus time to get an empty shell, so... :dunno |

I am presuming that it is the pedestal from It's worth pretty much nothing, other than the potential resale value of included parts. In the past year, locally, I've seen a number of folks who couldn't GIVE AWAY wooden showcase pedestals that are far more easily modified than that duramold on the GL. If you are rushed and need to make a decision quicker than you would like, then the right answer here is to walk away. There is ALWAYS another cabinet and unless you have found a Maneater or 2-player Computer Space, then you don't need to rush to "make an offer". Don't let yourself be manipulated (pretty much all of the oldtimers will admit to having had similar tactics used against them in the past). EDIT: As far as actually answering the original question -- $20-30 tops. |

Dynamo showcase cabinets typically were (30" or greater in size IIRC). $200 is pretty steep but not bad if the wood pedestal portion and T-molding is in good shape. Then all you would have to do is slap a fresh new coat of paint on it and you should be good to go. Now other things to consider with the showcase setup it how to join the pedestal part to the other half with the monitor. Again, I am going to link some more of Paladin's build so you can get a more clear picture of the final outcome. Honestly a pedestal isn't that hard or expensive to make if you have the measurements, tools, experience and skill. My brother in-law made my pedestal for my 4 player control panel in like 30 mins. 1 sheet of 4x8 MDF cost like $25 from homedepot and I had tons leftover to do my control panel top as well. If I was to buy this I would lowball $50 >:D To give you a little bit more perspective, I could have bought this gutted Rampage showcase cabinet for $75cdn off kijiji If I had seen this before I started mine I would have been all over it. I've will probably spend that much in MDF, T-molding and paint in the end. I spent $50 alone for my coin door  Not to mention how much time it would have saved me but oh well. The whole process of making everything from scratch has been lots of fun and a learning experience everytime. |

I only ask because the pedestal on the GL showcase had neither. |

Again hard to tell on mine since the pedestal is white and very poorly scanned in. In all honesty I think if the OP can snag this for $100 or less it would be worth it because like I said before, a decent coin door in mint shape runs anywhere I've seen from $30-50 plus shipping. I got lucky with my coin door for $50 and didn't have to pay shipping because the guy was coming to a doctor's convention near the Toronto airport so I met up with him 2 weeks after I enquired and picked it up along with my HAPP trackball. I think I spent close to $30 for my T-molding for my pedestal and control panel and still have to order more when I start the monitor half of my build. The only problem is I don't have time and because I have something for my TV to sit on and the control panel is 100% wired and working I have been lazy. I think instead of following the jakobud showcase plans I am going to make my monitor half suited for a corner since it will help save space. I am also on the lookout for FREE CRT TV's on craiglist or kijiji in my area that are 32"-36". I missed out on someone giving away a mint 36" Sony Wega with stand for FREE. The thing probably weighed like 250lbs but hey it's FREE  right now my Panasonic is only 27" and my daughter is getting to the age where she will be getting into her own room and out of the crib in our room so she will been a TV to watch her Baby Einstein on. |
