Does this ball top exist?
« on: March 03, 2010, 08:21:49 pm »
Question...

Thinking about switching my existing Happ Competion Joysticks with nicer ball top joys.  (I DON'T want U360s - I plan to use those on a future project). That said...

Here are my prerequisites:
1 - Must fit on a 3/4" wood panel
2 - Must mount from underneath
3 - Must be 8-way, just like the comps I already have on there
4 - Would love to have them in blue, red, green and yellow if possible. (optional)

I was looking at Lizardlick's WICO NOS Joystick s(with 4 inch shaft).  But they only come in red.  Would these look OK on a wood panel?  My problem is I'd love a Seimitzsu or Suzo joystick, but they are made for metal CPs and aren't long enough if mounted underneath.

Any suggestions?

I have something in the pipeline. Maybe you would like to help me test it out :)

Sure, what did you have in mind?  Is it based on HAPP or another technology?  I'm looking for Happ replacements.

You could try a Sanwa JLW with a longer shaft.  Never tried one myself though. :dunno

+1

I have a pair from Ultimarc that are going into my current project. I have tested them out on a test board and they are fantastic sticks and very mod friendly. In my current project you can see I got them with green after market balltops that have leds in them.

Check (with some routing), Check (again with routing), Check (4 way and 8 way switch...great feel), Red, blue (2 shades), green, pink, grey, yellow, white + translucent versions for LED mods.

I got an 8 way Sanwa JLF with red balltop from Lizard lick. Think it fits your criteria.
I bottom mounted mine in my Defender bartop and had to shim it down to get correct, low Defender height.

If you're talking about the Suzo 500s then you're wrong. They can easily be mounted underneath a 3/4" wood panel.

Although they're designed to be mounted on a metal panel with the pivot visible, I actually think they look nicer mounted underneath wood with the pivot hidden.
