Bridge to Terabithia - don't miss it
« on: March 04, 2007, 09:59:09 pm »
Whether you see this one in theaters, or wait for the DVD, I strongly encourage you NOT to miss the best film of the year so far (certainly best family film).

It holds very close to the book, and the actors and actresses are marvels. The adults are NOT sappy, cardboard cutouts.  No, these folk know their roles and embrace them with utter welcome.  Robert Patrick is amazing and a delight as father of young Jess. My wife and I, knowing Robert's work only through X-Files and Terminator movies, were amazed to see the gentle side in him on full display.   AnnaSophia Robb is perfect for Jess' friend Leslie; though others may be against this, I thought she was plenty "tomboyish" enough (some critics have said she was not & was too cute).

I'll say it again - everyone in this cast, from the smallest supporting role to the largest, understood their part in this perfectly.  It is seamless and hit the bullseye when it came to nailing the story Katherine Patterson wrote.

See it with someone you love, or your famliy and kids (if the kids are old enough).  This one is a rare gem...boy did Disney ever get it right.

SPOILER ALERT!

Do not believe the trailier....this movie is NOT a special effects film!

If you know the book, the movie sticks extremely close to it at the ending, so by all means pack tissues for the ladies in your family, and a few for yourself as well.  I consider myself a strong man, but I've seen this movie twice now...and both times I have cried like a baby through the last half hour.

Thanks for that muchly! I had actually planned on skipping this because as you said, the trailer made me think that this was a movie for the unwashed masses. Now I know better.  :applaud:
Done. SLATFATF.

Most welcome!  My wife keeps telling me I should be a movie reviewer!  :D

One final thought: once you do see it, be prepared for this.  IF it touches you like it did me, you will find yourself thinking about it in the days afterward and be unable to stop from getting misty-eyed.  I saw it by myself before I took my wife to see it, and I could hardly talk to her about it at times!
