hey,
i'd really appreciate some advice from someone who knows CRTs.
i've been using this machine for about a year. before that, it was in an arcade for around 4 years. it's usable, but i'm wondering what's with the tinted (yellow on the left, cyan on the right) corners:

and the misalignment of the colors near the top:

any ideas what's up?

looks like your yoke has been knocked out of alignment.
grab it (while it's turned off of course) gently and see if it is loose or anything. it may just be the magnets.
lots of monitors have bad CONVERGENCE (which is your problem's name BTW) in the corners.
usually once your playing a game you don't notice it.
if you want to try and fix it, wellsgardner has a prety easy to understand procedure in their book here on fixing convergance issues. (hint it's on page 5)

though it may not be your monitor here, the principal is the same across the board...

i generally don't like touching things powered on unless i have to, you never know if the yolk wire has been abraded and the copper is showing through the insulation layer. and then you go and grab it...no thanks, not saying I've been electrocuted lots, i just used to stick keys into electrical outlets when i was a kid is all's i'm saying*twitch twitch*

I wouldn't stick my hand back there either. I've got a mirror setup and some of those nice plastic screwdrivers plus some plastic pincers I use to adjust everything. Keeps me safe. I've been jolted once and I'm certainly not letting that happen again.

yeah i think i'll find a plastic screwdriver and wear some gloves and see what's up back there. it even has R/B/G pots that look easy to adjust... i just dont want to touch anything

you have a purity problem. Rotate the entire machine 90 degrees. Let it cool down (power off ) for about an hour and try again. I bet it goes away. If it does, find a different location in your room for the machine. It's very common
This can be natural Earth's EMI problem or your yoke needs to be adjusted. If you are not comfortable mucking around with your hands on the back of a live monitor, then i wouldnt make this adjustment. It can only be done when the tube is on. Much easier to do with the entire monitor removed from the cabinet.

I have the exact same cabinet as you and have the exact same monitor issues!! (i also noticed we both live in Canada). My screen also goes green when i first turn it on. it requires a few well placed "smacks" to the left side of the cabinet to make it go away. Have you been able to get yours fixed? i am very new to the arcade world, having only bought this cabinet and Neo Geo 4 slot a few months ago, and dont want to touch anything i shouldn't and get shocked!
here is my cabinet BTW, its currently running an Atomiswave motherboard and Metal Slug 6

you have a bad solder joint on the chassis-a few more good smacks may stop your monitor from running
get it fixed before it turns into a real serious problem

thanks for the info! i have been reading up on monitor issues and monitor repairs... even though soldering is not a problem i am quite nervous about messing around back there with the ammount of electricity some of these monitors use. i will try to find a local repair guy and see if i can get it fixed.. thanks!

Just make sure the machine is off and unplugged. If you don't have a problem soldering there's no reason you can't do this yourself.
