Title: Mame 0.120 - Worth Upgrading? - Has Mr Driller been fixed?
Post by: cpyne on January 22, 2010, 06:34:09 pm
Hi - I setup my cabinet a couple of years ago and have been playing it ever since.  I haven't bothered to upgrade mame since I first set it up with version 0.120.

http://mamedev.org/oldrel.html (http://mamedev.org/oldrel.html)

I've tried to follow the change log to see what I'd gain by upgrading, but it's tough to make sense of it.

Can anyone tell me any "must haves" that I'm missing out on?

The one game that I play a lot that only partially works in this version is the "Mr Driller" series.  Can anyone tell me if these have been fixed in newer releases?  Part 1 has sound problems and the others don't work at all in my version.

Thanks
Charlie

i can't remember now if it was because it didn't work right or was just too slow, but i run Zinc for Mr Driller, the Street Fighter EX games, Strider, and a few others. done seamlessly pointing MaLa to mame.cmd for MAME and picking which rom names to send to Zinc.

I used to use it in zinc...but I just retried it... seems to work fine.  Still marked as issues with video, but I didn't notice them... I wonder if there still is a problem, or they didn't remove the flag (because the fix was in another game??)

Try it out... if your machine is fast enough... otherwise... zinc works great
