So, since im a cheap bloke I scouted about for the cheapest coin door, and found one at my local vender for $5.
However the problem is that it has no frame.

The door is in good condition, and I dont need it to open and close, and to take off some weight I took off the mech, but I can always add it back.
But im not quite sure how I should mount it. It's a tad thicker than my 5/8 MDF for reference, and the side thats show has a hinge on it.
What I was thinking was either to cut out a hole to fit it and just place it in there, but not quite sure how id secure it. SInce it has that hinge I was thinking about taking it off somehow too. Another option was just to mount it to the wood without cutting a hole, and the door being protruded.
But yeah, just not quite sure. Maybe I just may break down and buy a full coin door/frame, or somehow make/find a frame some where.
Would anyone by chance know the type/make of this door btw? Maybe I can try to contact them to see if they have a frame lying around.
Im thinking this is a WellsG coin door? It also seems to fit this spec http://www.happcontrols.com/coindoors/40005700_exploded.htm (http://www.happcontrols.com/coindoors/40005700_exploded.htm) It's about 6.5x9.5"
The only marking on it is "COIN CONTROLS 1992" and after looking around that means it is a WellsG, but since Happ now owns that WellsG division, I guess I would have to go through Happ to see if they sell frames I suppose. Most likely itll cost 20$ and not 5$ like im hoping.

I tried being cheap by doing the exact same thing but it the end it looks SOOOOO much better with the frame.
mounting it? hmm i guess the edge is too tight do drive a screw through it so maybe a medium/heavy duty magnet to hold it in a cutout. if you make it flush nobody should really be able to pull it out

Hi,
Just cut out the cabinet to allow the coin mech to fit snugly and allow for the hinge to be used.
I would then line the inside of the hole cut with softwood to take up the difference in the size of the door and the MDF, this will give the hinge something to screw into and provide the lock something to lock against.

You'll have a hard time creating a finished appearance by just flush mounting the door. The outer frame holds the door but is also designed to absorb and cover up any errors associated with the carpentry - take off the average light switch plate and look at how the electrician cut the hole in the wall (messy). Unless you are a very competent finish carpenter or dont care about the finish then get a full unit. A new unit unfortunately from HAPP for example with shipping is close to $100.

I would build an outer frame out of 1/2" mdf. Use the coin door as a pattern and route a hole for it about 1/16" larger around all 4 sides. Then use a small roundover bit on the outside of the frame. That will leave room for the hinge to mount as well as cover any goofs behind it. If you really want to get fancy, machine the whole frame like the missing frame including rabbets.

Also, you can buy JUST the frame for WG doors from happ. look on their site under coin doors. if you call they will give you a price.

If your only planning on using it for appearance, remove the lock and find a bolt with a head that is about the same size. Drill a single hole in the cabinet the size of the bolt and put a nut on from the back side. It should hold it there the door does not weigh much. if you ever find a frame or decide to go a different route you will only have 1 small hole in the cabinet.

I broke down and got an over under frame for 5$ from the same guy, the reason I didnt get it the first time was because it didnt fit my cabinet, but now I have to figure out some way to cut the thing in half.
Pure cast iron.. band saw, grinder, plasma cutter lol?
