Post by: DaOld Man on November 17, 2009, 07:01:34 am
Come on! You wouldnt mind helping this poor little girl (possibly man), living in a orphanage (possibly Nigeria), now would you?

Got this email today:

Dearest One,

I know that my message will come to you as surprise since I don't know you in person or met with you before, but I am of believe that God would use you to assist me.

I am Felicia Drogba, 18yrs a Medical Student undergraduate, from Cote d'Ivoire, the only surviving child of Late Mr.Smith who was murdered alongside with my mother and only brother, last year by rebels while I was in school.
Now I am presently hiding in an orphanage home because of wickedness of my uncle's and relatives. Before his death he had a domiciliary account here, up to the tune of (Five Million Five Hundred Thousand US dollars).
Please I need your assistance to help me get this money transferred to your account for my education, investment and to be my guardian before my uncles will get hold of me and the money.
I shall forward to you with the necessary documents on confirmation of your acceptance to assist me for the transfer of the money to your account.
I am willing to offer you a reasonable percentage from the total money as compensation for your effort.
May God touch your heart and use you to bring back happiness and joy in my life.
 my private email:***************
 Your Sincerely,

 Felicia

It's always funny to read how they don't trust their own uncle but have no problem what so ever with a complete stranger  :laugh2:

What is really sad is ANYONE that would believe that and give these people any money. You see it on the news sometimes and you cannot believe how dumb people can be. I mean, I sent them $5000 ONCE but that was it! I learned my lesson quickly. Some people don't learn though. Very sad.

Hello, this is the recent widow of Ginsu Victim. I am sad to report to you his passing. He loved it here and in his will, wished to leave you (insert naJ_K_M_A_Nme here) his earnings of $13 million USD dollars as a banker for the Bank of the World in Nigeria. Much of what he earned was taken from rich warlords and evil businessman, so you can not tell of this.

The moneys is in a locker and to get the key, I will need $5000 from you for bribes.

Please let me know when you are wanting this moneys!

Thank you and blessings from God,
Mrs Ginsu Victim - widow

On a whim I replied to one once, kinda with a "gee whiz WOW!" tone, mixed with a touch of skepticism. They emailed me back with a scanned image of some russian woman's drivers license or ID card (you know, to "build trust").

What's really dumb, or incredibly smart is that they kept using different names in the various emails. Now I say this could be "really dumb" as it's a glaring red flag of a mistake, or it's incredibly smart because it weeds out people smart enough to pay attention to such obvious details.

The Russian bride ones are much more entertaining to play around with.
And they're quite persistent and yet patient at the same time.  You can string one along for quite some time before they finally give up.
My personal best was almost a year.  ;D

Hey, he did get laid, at least... unless he actually was dumb enough to believe she was pregnant and he didn't touch her...

I personally know a guy that got taken to the cleaners by a russian bride scam to the tune ~$30,000.  It was actually two 'women', one in Hungary and the other in Moscow.  The Hungarian sent him photos of the nice car and apartment he provided for her.

He decided to fly over there, I guess the Hungarian didn't really exist, and the Russian was already married or had a boyfriend or something.  I think he sat alone in a crummy hotel room the whole time.  We honestly thought he'd never get back in the USA alive.

After a few weeks, he came back to the states and then started getting e-mails from her that she was pregnant with his baby.

For awhile, his nutty wife thought they should move the girl and baby to America and be a happy polygamous family.  Then I started suggesting to his son in law, "hey, how about he just, you know, stops answering her e-mail?"

I think that's been the end of it....

....  ....nothing from his wife about his infidelity, mm?  Fascinating. Except that she already had runt, maybe he should've passed her my way.

Back a few years, didn't AOL or some other ISP attempt to ban all of Nigeria and the surrounding countries? A lot of people got into a fluff about it. I guess the same people getting scammed believe buying Wal*Mart is buying American or something.  :dunno

If any of you get scam mail like this, just go to this http://www.spyrkes.info/wugen2/index.php (http://www.spyrkes.info/wugen2/index.php) and fill it out. Take the pic and send it back to them saying you paid them in full. My first lad was so confused as to why Western Union didn't have any record of my payment towards him, especially from someone so esteemed as Rev. Flatus Maximus (my alias at the time) that I got a good chuckle for about a week. He held on for awhile waiting for me to "fix" the transaction error. :D

ugh. That receipt maker could have nefarious uses as well, especially in the hands of 419'ers and unethical Ebay buyers.

I cant believe anyone actually falls for these retarded scams. like average americans have 5.5 million to help out random strangers. this is not imaginary dreamworld where people have millions laying around......... ::)

I dont even "spare change". I live in newyork so regular-ass/non-homeless people always trying to hustle for money. "ey mah mayne you got some change on you". my answer is always something like "sure I got change and I have more in my bank account but I am not gonna give you anything"

No kidding. When I lived in Portland Maine, I either always gave out a quarter or if I had no change told them that I had no money on me. Either way they said "God Bless". No need to incite people who have almost nothing.

but its not the people that have nothing. its the people that think they can just ask other people for money and I should just give it to them because they asked. not like I never gave anything to actual homeless people. I have and I will again. how you gonna walk around with a cell phone and jordan shoes and ask me for change(thats your average beggar around here). and no offense to anyone but its always a random black guy lol...

Heh, back in the day when I was single, unemployed, and broke myself I took a cab to a job interview to make sure I was on time but didn't have the cash to take one home.  During the long walk a guy asked me for money "to fix the tire on my car, I'm stranded".  I didn't have any and told him that.  He was working the whole area and must have asked me 3 more times over the next couple hours as I walked home.
