Hi, everyone! I'm working on a Marvel vs. Capcom theme cabinet, its my first cabinet and its custom built! It has 2 6x9 speakers in the area above the screen and 2 10" subwoofers in the bottom area. I'm going to play mostly fighters, shmups and lightgun games. I'm using Maximus Arcade as the front end. Ive been checking on everyone's cabinets, their is some really nice stuff on here. Any opinions welcome.

Wow! TWO 10" subs and 6x9s for an arcade cab? That thing is going to thump!
Hope you've got some beefy grills planned for those subs, otherwise I could easily see somebody planting a foot through them.
Interesting design choice to not have any tilt at all for the monitor.
What do you have planned for your control panel?

I was going to say the same thing. I would invest in something that you know isn't going to get easily bent/ broken. It would be a shame to have someone acccidentally kick in one of the subs during a heated vs. match.
-
Even with Grills you risk Damage I play Robotron for hours if i had subs in the front i would literally put my foot through them. :banghead: If its not to late i would put them on the sides!

I didn't really plan on having the subwoofers at first, it was kind of a last minute thing. I don't know where to buy the grilles from? Does anyone know any good websites? The control panel is going to have Sanwa JLW joysticks and Happ convex buttons, Street Fighter 6 button layout in a JPN style arc. I know its not really "right" with a JPN style layout in a US style cabinet, but its more comfortable in my opinion.

Thanks, I just put in a order for a pair of subwoofer grilles, so now no accidents will happen. Anyway, the subwoofers wouldn't be that close to the bottom, the wheels make it 3 inches from the ground, the pictures make it look lower than it is.

Good choice! ;)

I painted it :applaud: I used Killz primer and Colorplace gloss black paint. I had more more pictures to put up, but my computer was acting stupid yesterday so I'll put them up today. I already have the buttons and one joystick(I need to order another one). I also ordered the GGG Keywiz a couple of days ago and so it should be coming in today or tomorrow!
-
Right now I'm configuring the software and its pretty easy. I had the Mame 0.132 binary, but I couldn't get most of the CHD games working, so I got 0.102 binary, and now it plays KI 1&2, Carnevil, Area 51 and most of the other games. I will put some pictures of the marquee and my newly redesigned control panel soon. I will order another joystick sometime this week. edit: I just found out that the joystick I wanted to order is sold out, so now I have to wait :banghead:
-
I got some pictures of my marquee and control panel overlay, I ordered them from Fullsizeposters.com, they turned out great. I redesigned the control panel so now their is more room to rest my wrists on. I designed the marquee myself, I used Photoshop, took the characters from Google images. I just got my subwoofer covers on, its hard to see since everything is black. I think the artwork is pretty good for a person who never used Photoshop before, what do you guys think?

Looks like you're moving right along. Maybe you could take pictures of the CPO and the subs in the light so we can actually see them. :) Also, higher res pics would be nice. Hard to provide much feedback from looking at those smallish, dark images.
What are you using to light your marquee? Unless it's just the camera, the light seems really concentrated in the center. You may need to do something to diffuse the light better.
-
Sorry, It was dark when I took the pictures I'll take better pictures tomorrow. Yeah the light I'm using sucks, I bought a 8 inch cabinet light and the marquee is 25 inches, so its way too small for it, lets just say its on my to do list.

Ah, ok.. That makes sense. Yeah, I imagine a wider light will help.
So does that photo paper they use seem to work well when backlit? (hard to tell from the pics) I was wondering how well that stuff might work. I also had my CPO printed there a while back, and wondered how well it might work for a marquee. Their pricing is so reasonable it's tempting to try it out for the heck of it.

I'm planning to rotate a LCD monitor. I'm going to buy a 20" LCD monitor because I have a 25" TV right now and text is hard to read plus shmups look better on a widescreen LCD when its rotated. The monitor I'm going to get already has a stand that can rotate so it should be pretty easy to figure something out.
-
I got an update, sorry for the small pictures. I finally got around to post some of my wiring of my control panel. I used the Keywiz encoder and I added Seimitsu bubbletop ball tops, I didn't take any close ups because It didn't look good on picture, but look awesome in person. I think I did a good job on the wiring. I'm waiting on my 22" LCD monitor and rotating stand, so I'll update next time when I get that done.
-
I'm used a rotating LCD stand, it works great. I couldn't figure out how to rotate the screen from the outside so I put a handle in the front to rotate it, I can't use glass but rotating it is worth it. The bezel isn't centered in the picture I have to fix that. I wanted to show some horizontal and vertical game pictures because it looks great, but my PC is getting upgraded at this time.
My old parts: P4 3.4 ghz, cheap brand 250 watt power supply, Geforce 7200 and 1 gb ram.
New PC parts I ordered: Intel dual-core 2.5 ghz, OCZ 700 watt power supply, Geforce 9600 and another stick 1gb of ram.
I want to play Street Fighter IV and other PC games like Left 4 Dead and Crysis. I got a 700 watt PS so I can upgrade if I want to later on.

I can't wait to hear this thing...
any worries on the power of the magnets?
-
I don't have any problems with magnets. Thanks SNAAKE, your actually my inspiration for my artwork. I seen this one guy's cabinet artwork you've done called "The Answer", it has the coolest sideart Ive seen :applaud:

Ok DC,
Speaker war, speaker war, we are both connoisseurs of good old fashioned loud sound. This is also my 1st build.....
My cab is gonna have 8 speakers total, running 600 watts....woohoo. I've been keeping up with your cab, awesome work.
I'm still in the construction phases http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=96162.0 (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=96162.0)....
Keep up the good work.... :applaud:

Thanks, but yours is better than mine. Your cabinet has nice detailed work. I still got things to do maybe some LEDs or something. Thanks for the compliments guys
