I'm know I'm not supposed to post here, but I had to ::)
i know it's not an arcade, but we should hire this guy to make special mame computers

I want one in my cab now!!!! ;D ;D

Why would you have him build a computer for MAME? MAME emulates arcarde games... I don't think he's ever seen an emulator or he wouldn't have squeezed all those consoles into an ugly computer case. To each their own. ::)
And yes I know some of those consoles aren't emulated, yet. Wasn't there already a PC in there? Just needs to install MAME.

Nifty, even though I'd wonder why anyone would want to do it

That's actually a fairly old article. That is his first "Boxx." He has since made a second one which was disgustingly ugly and over the top. I'll see if I can dig up a link.
EDIT: found a link. Boy, I forgot how ugly this thing was.

I think it's both pointless and ugly. Why put them all together like that? What advantage does it serve?

It got him on tv? That's enough for some. ::)
It's still real ugly though
Xar256 ;D

because you can :)
I plan on embedding a computer into an old toploader vcr. I want to turn the toploader so the cd pops up.

Ugly and wasteful. How about a nicely designed vertical display case that displays the consoles in their original glory, all ready to play? I've got a couple shelves on my entertainment center which would serve this purpose nicely...
...Hmm, argh, no, no too many projects already! Bad 1UP!! ;D

The only interesting thing in that entire story is the plug for his dekstop laser cutting system. Go to their site, watch the video, and wish you had 10k to drop to buy it.

The Boxx looks like something that might have appeared a mid seventies episode of Dr. Who!
I have seen the Universal Laser Cutters in action at the International Hobby and Model Expo in Chicago.
The are really impressive. I could think of at least a dozen way to make money with one of those if I had the spare 10K-25k.
I was dating a girl about 15 years ago whose father bought a large industrial laser cutter. It was massive, with a 4' by 8' cutting table. When they were first setting it up, they fired the unfocused beam at a board on the other side of the shop. The beam was only on for a split second, and it burned a quarter sized hole about 1/8 inch deep in the wood. When the optics were added that quater sized beam was focused to about .005 inch. It was supposed to be able to cut through 1/2 inch steel. The beam had to be pulsed to keep it from cutting through the cutting table.

Sounds like fun. How big is something like that?

The cutting table was about 5' x 9' and about 6 foot high.
The laser source was about 2' x 3' and about 4 foot high.
