Title: Pinball artwork available for Download?
Post by: Luigi on October 21, 2009, 09:14:53 am
Hi everybody.

Please excuse me if there's already an existing thread....I couldn't find one.

Is there Pinball artwork for targets etc. available for download?

For videogames you get all kind of stuff but I haven't seen for pinballs....  :-\

Thanks! :)

Thanks Jim :)

I'm not really into the Pins (besides playing them ;) ) and a friend asked me. I think he talked about T2 and two others....I'll ask him and see what ipdb offers :)

Would be a good idea to start such a project....erm no, I don't have the time  ::)

To put it this way... most of it's out there but pinball guys don't share.  So people end up constantly duplicating effort and repeating from scratch stuff that has been done 10 times already.  And getting a lot of the guys to even negotiate on stuff may as well be a bill in congress.

Yeah, the one thing that really bugs me is how tight fisted a lot of pinball enthusiasts are. Someone can sell them some scans they did of some art and then that very same person won't pass it along for less than $10. The arcade guys are SO much more willing to collaborate and share. I think pinball is awesome, and there are tons of good guys in the hobby, but overall the community is really keen on squeezing one another for an extra penny.

Just recently I sold a NOS mini playfield for a Bride of Pinbot. I sold it for $50 because that's what I paid for it years back. I got no less than five emails telling me that they were hard to find and that I should jack up the price another $50. Some were even calling me stupid and were upset that I was "lowering the value" of an item. To me, that's just bad behavior.

Yeah pinball people are something else, take PBJ for example.

I guess what I'm getting at is I haven't met too many pinball collectors that live with their mothers.

A whole lot of them are only children who never married themselves, though... in fact I don't know all that many pinball collectors that have kids.

Married != having kids

No, but there seem to be two levels of guys in this hobby... the ones who did get married, but had no kids... and the guys who didn't get married either... and the latter is harder to deal with than the former for sure.

Though I generally stay away from 'collectors' over 30 that have never been married.  Divorced is 50/50.

The type that want your machines for $100 but want $2000 for their own - and will hem and haw over a deal for months.

Eh, the happiest couples have no kids.  The second happiest have 1 kid.

That opinion has no relevance to how having no kids affects hobby negotiations, though.  Can't tell you how many guys I have tried to deal with in this hobby that seem to think the world revolves around their whim.  They'll hem and haw on a deal for months when you want to sell, then when they finally decide, the deal has to happen NOW NOW NOW or you're flamed every way possible.  These guys consistently have no kids - the guys with kids are waaay easier for me to deal with since they actually get what that lifestyle schedule is like.

I agree 100%, Chad. You're a few hours late getting back on an email or sending over pics and they're ready to crucify you publicly and proclaim that nobody should ever do business with you despite the fact that it took them 3 weeks of back and forth emailing to settle on a price with you. The guys with kids are always like, "no problem, man. I know life steps in and interferes with hobbies all the time."

I wouldn't say pinball collectors are more tight ended than the vid guys, but you do have to consider Gene and that devil from down under...they're the ones protecting everything they can.

If you paid 7 figures you'd protect your investment, too.  IP is nowhere near the same as individual machines and parts.
