It seems like this thread was fogot about and never
really complete although alot of great information
was exchanged there.
I got this old Track & Field machine
that has a broken monitor and the cab is in really
bad shape. I been tossing this around in my mind
for a while (Mame it/ Restore it Mame it/ Restore it
Mame it/ Restore it), to tell the truth Mame it usually
wins out since I have a couple of 19" vga open frame
monitors already but a couple of weeks ago I won
an auction on Ebay for 6-19" color tvs "$10 Total"
the only thing wrong with them is the cases were cracked, and it turned out the seller was less than a
half hour away so i could pick them up and not incur
any shipping charges
Well to make a long story even longer
I ordered a replacment chassis from Victor
@ 8liners today and when it comes in I will
document the instalation process and report back.
Also if I live through it and it works then there will
be no other option than to RESTORE it

Absolutely! I remember that post. I think I still have it set to notify me even. I'd be very interested in hearing what comes of this. I won't let ya forget! ;)

I have a 27" tv tube in my basement waiting for an "operation." I'd love to hear how you make out. My funds are a little shy right now so I haven't started yet but I intend to eventually.

I just got home and the chassis was on my doorstep
looks pretty simple but I dont have time to mess with
today, I have to go to work @ 2.30
It came with no instructions but like I said looks simple enough, the only thing I wasn't sure about was where
to hook the grounding strap and the auto degauser but a quick call to victor and he sorted that right out
for me
hopefully tommorow I can get this thing hooked up
and post some pictures

Yeah, that was my original Whooo Mama thread. I kinda dropped the ball on documentation. I have a lot of pictures and I started a page on it but alas never finished it. I'll dig through what I have tonight and get some preliminary stuff up there.
Something I've noticed with these chassis is that some times there seems to be a surge in the brightness and color when you switch from lets say a DOS screen to a NEO GEO screen. It gets bright and then tones down right away. Let me know if you experience this too.
Two out of my three machines are using the 8liners chassis but the last one was giving me some weird pincushioning. One thing that is nice about these chassis is that you don't need an isolation transformer.
I did find a local TV repair guy who sold me some old TV's that the tubes were still good for about $10 a peice but the yolks were totally different than the ones on my arcade monitors and they didn't work. I bought two from him and neither one of them was right. After that I lost interest and decided to save the money I spent trying to do things "on the cheap" and just buy a new Arcade monitor.

I'm converting a Track & Field machine to MAME also at the moment :) It should be nice to see how yours is coming along, and maybe I'll upload a few pics of mine once I get it rolling (I just finished gutting the cabinet, and next up is painting).
The only problem I see is the fact that I'm going to use a SlikStik control panel, so I'll definately have to cut out an L-shape in the sides so I can fit the wider control panel in...

Ok Ive managed to get it hooked up
and im still alive lol
I got pictures but dont have time to upload have
to leave for work in a few minutes
I will try to upload them tonight after work
It looks pretty good the only thing is I dont
think the horz size looks big enough but I
cant make it any larger? ???
I have one question I hope someone can answer
I know this chassis dosent need an isolation
transformer but I was wondering if it would hurt
anything if I connected it to the one thats in the cabinet since I dont want to cut any of the origonal
harness to it would just make it that much easier
Thanks

Hello!
Here is some quick (and dirty) documentation on the 8 liners chassis. Again, I just whipped these up in the last hour and I'll have more to come, I just wanted to get something up there that might help one of you out. Just think of this as a companion peice to the 8 liners site.

Rod: it should be just fine -- it's still 120VAC, you've just isolated twice.
So was your TnF monitor an Electrohome GO7? I'm still working on rebuilding an Electrohome chassis and may just have to give up and get one of these if the tube tests OK with my working chassis...... then again I may just get some gambling machines with new-ish monitors at the next auction for parts and use those since the tubes are about 20 years old now, too :P

Any luck Rod1968?
