Is this a fun pin? Is it worthy of being the only representation of a modern pin in a collection?
One came up local at the high end of what I have to spend on a pin... but a couple things give me pause.
(A) It's at the high end of my limit
(B) I read where a guy had to sell his because his 5 year old son was scared shitless of it...I have a new baby.
(C) I think the FK "theme" may get old
Opinions?

I really like the game and it's on my wantlist. I should mention I'm a huge fan of the movies.
To be honest it's a mediocre game if you're not into the theme. You're right to be concerned about the kid, too. My younger son is scared of the VP version so I totally believe that someone had to sell the game for that reason. Since your kid is a baby, though, you may get tired of the game way before that kid is old enough to notice. Don't sweat it being "the only modern pin" as for most people this game is not a long term keeper. It might be for me but again that's where my fandom of the theme comes in.
...and to be a little speculative the remake is coming out soon so that could be a factor here. I'd be totally excited about this if it weren't a Michael Bay production. :banghead:

There is one at Funspot but half the playfield artwork is gone. Make sure you check the glove flipper, that's a unique piece that is almost always broken badly.
There is a lot of "whip the ball in the general direction of a target bank and hope for a good rebound" in this game.

I've always thought it is a cool looking pin, but have never played it. Personally, I know what kind of person/dad you are, and you won't like it being in the gameroom. It only took a week to realize Lethal Weapon 3 was too much for a toddler.
Stick with a theme that is family friendly. If you don't, it will bother you.

It's posts like you guys that make me glad I've desensitized my kids to fictional stuff like that over the years.

Due to lack of smiley, I'll just say good for you. Personally, I thought Freddy Kreuger, Jason, and the rest of the horror gang were a kick-butt part of childhood. Still, I would have crapped my pants if there was a bona-fide freddy kreuger pinball machine in my house as a kid. I know I would be ticked if I paid $1k+ for a pinball, only for my wife to say "Honey, the pinball is fun and all, but our little girl is too terrified to go in the gameroom now. She says she has nightmares that Freddy is gonna come out of the game and eat her."
It's called hedging your bets, good sir. Kept it G-rated at least until they are 8. Kids below that usually can't comprehend the difference between real and imaginary imagery. I remember when my bro-in-law let his kid (5-6 I think) watch the butterfly effect. The scene where the woman and baby gets blown up by dynamite - wow, that really messed that poor kid up even though nothing is shown on screen. I couldn't imagine the kids nightmares if it showed it!

I played this pin at a couple auctions a while back. It was fun for a few plays and I like the theme, but for me it doesn't have good staying power.

Robert Englund is the franchise... this isn't Jason or Michael Myers. You can't replace Englund.

Eh, I saw the new preview and I totally buy Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy. He's a great fit. He also is the reason Johnny Depp landed his part in the first movie. Jackie was there to audition, and Depp was a friend just tagging along to keep him company in line. Craven hand picked Depp.

Depp brought nothing to that movie another actor couldn't. Pre-name value doesn't have value in the moment.
