I know there are video cards that can rotate the display in Windows. They've been discussed here before but my search using the search function has turned up nothing. I'm pretty sure that there are ATI cards that do it. Does anyone know off hand of some vid cards that have this feature?
I'd like Windows to appear normal (more or less) on a vertical monitor without having to lay on my side.

Can't name you any off hand, but I know it can be done in hardware and software. So even if you don't have a card capable of doing it in hardware you can still find programs that will do it for you. I tried it one time and it worked like a charm. Lemme find one...

holy snikeys... eighbit... where've you been? Modern Radeon cards with latest drivers on xp/2000 will rotate... (even Andy's Arcade VGA card will hardware rotate)
I'm pretty sure modern Geforce cards will too but I'm less confident of that...

My arcadevga card does (ati 7000 based) and my geforce 4 ti4600 does.
It may be that older geforce cards do to with the latest drivers. Works in
win2k and xp, don't know about older microsloth products.

Summers here, life got busy-

Can anyone confirm for me a particular ATI radeon card that will rotate?

ooooh that seadoo looks like fun =P
(oh and kids are cute too, of course...especially the little one in the hat (willow? IIRC?)
*shrug* Anyhow what happened to mame.hower.us?
Well enjoy your summer, 8bit...
FYI: I'm pretty sure any Radeon card 7000 series or higher will rotate but i don't have any to prove it =P

Hmmm, somethings going on with the server. If you could see the sea doo picture then the server was up. If the server was up you should have been able to get to mame.hower.us. Now non of my domains respond. I'll have to check it when I get home. It was responding this morning but its not responding now.
The little one in the hat is mine, the other is a neice and the other one is my wife. We just got the boat last Friday.
Back on topic I'm looking into confirming a 7000 card can do what I need and will post my results in case anyone is interested.

The nVidia GeForce cards will do it. I have a GeForce4 4200 and it does it. I use it rotated every day.
-
My old GeForce 2 MX does it with the newest drivers, but I believe it is software rotation. It is not the greatest thing in the world (doesn't even look as good as the pivot software did on my old pentium 233), but it gets the job done.

I'm not sure if its software or not. I used to use the Portrait software. It came with my Viewsonic LCD but I really had a hard time with it and it was fuzzy for me.
Maybe it was a difference in the cards themselves.
I was thrilled when the new nVidia drivers came out and supported rotation and its crystal clear for me. Ms. PacMan is beautiful on my rotated LCD!
(oh, BTW I play it rotated via the driver, not MAME in this case :) )

Radeon 7200 will rotate. Radeon PCI with 7200 drivers will rotate.
