Title: I love when a trade goes well
Post by: Edgedamage on September 05, 2009, 09:15:43 pm
I traded a 40gig 2.5" sata HDD for this:
Powerware 5119 1000VA rack mount UPS.

Removed the battery packs and they both show 24vdc even if I have to replace the batteries I can get them for $23-25 dollars each. After 4hrs all the battery leds are lit.

.....why? I mean, what features does it have that makes it worthwhile?

Well let's see:
#1 the run time kicks the average UPS's ass.
#2 in places with constant under / over voltage problems the unit can be set to provide constant locked output voltage.
#3 six battery protected outlets, with the choice of shutting down three outlets via software during extended outages.
#4 90% of battery capacity recharged in 4hrs home UPS's take 12-24 hrs to recharge.
#5 My buildings power grid is 50+ years old and we get blackouts once a month for at least 15 to 30 minand the ten to 15min run time of my consumer UPS's suck.

Also I get the same prices on batterys that my work does that's why I get these used UPS's. Now if I got my eye on this little bastard:
