do they work if u run it straight from mame?

if you are using a front end maybe you have the error messages disabled so u cant tell whats wrong and it goes back to the front end....

Do you have a ROM set that matches the MAME version?

And do you have the parent set, bios or CHD, if you're playing a clone pacman, a game that needs a bios or chd (some of the SF games need one or the other)?  (mameDevFAQ (http://mamedev.org/devwiki/index.php/FAQ:ROMs#Why_does_MAME_report_.22missing_files.22_even_if_I_have_the_ROMs.3F))

Asking for ROMs or CHDs is a no-no on these forums (http://arcadecontrols.com/arcade_message_rules.html), as well as answering, even hints.

If you start mame from the commandline, it will list what's missing.  And MAWS (http://maws.mameworld.info/maws/) will list what each game needs, as well as whit versions there were changes in the sets.
