Title: Good deal on a TOTAN?
Post by: Aceldamor on August 07, 2009, 11:25:20 am
I have the opportunity to get a TOTAN for 2200...just wondering if this is a groovy deal, because I might be able to come up with the dough, but it will involve effort, and I don't want to put forth the effort if it isn't a good deal.

Thx.

If it's in good condition, then yes, it's a good deal. If things are broken or it's really dirty, you can probably do better with that amount of money.

Obviously, condition is important, but the last few I've looked at (probably 4 or 5 over the last couple years), have ranged from 2500-3700, The 3700 was as close to mint as I've personally seen. The 2500, was in full working order, and minimal playfield wear, mainly needed a good shop out, and new cab decals.

For 2200, I'd want good (not perfect) play field condition, but would expect cabinet fade/wear.

I love that game - probably my favorite artwork of all the DMDs.

I would agree with Zero_Hour.  I have seen a handful for sale over the last year or so between $2600-$4000.  If it is in good shape I would say $2200 sounds like a good deal.

I have yet to play TOTAN, but I like the looks.

Playfield looks to be in good shape, but he did say the cab art was faded, but said he has a replacement set of artwork. All components are in working condition.

I have seen pics, but have not seen it in person. Thanks for the assistance guys, perhaps I will arrange a viewing.

My buddy is doing the repro playfield for CPR.  It's looking sweet so far.  You should be able to get a new playfield soon if you want one.

Kevin just said they have a backup of like 30 playfields waiting to be produced.  If he hasn't submitted the art package yet you're probably looking at 3+ years after he gets the package in.

I have a "feeling" that the TOTAN playfield will be a priority.

While that's certainly possible there is also  these statements from CPR (http://groups.google.com/group/rec.games.pinball/browse_thread/thread/27abd15774935068/d116ddfa992f9d7c#d116ddfa992f9d7c) as well.  I can't speak for them obviously but that is a pretty good indication of their publicly facing priority.

I also have a good lead on a Harley Davidson machine as well...waiting on a price to come back to me, I think out of the two I would prefer TOTAN, but if the price is right.....

Actually, the DMD games are lower priority in most cases. I'm waiting on the Bride of Pinbot playfield myself, but I know it's going to be a while.

I have bought three of their playfields.  I don't see any more on the publicly displayed list that I want.

You are assuming that when the artwork is submitted that is the order they will be made.  Kevin determines the order.  Like I said I believe the TOTAN PF will be made sooner rather than latter.

I'm assuming his public statements about DMD games taking a low priority are true.   ;D

I am going to pick up my ToM sunday. Once it is secure TOTAN is top on my wishlist. I'm not really capable of major restoration (yet), so condition would definitely be a deciding factor for me. But if it was just fade, filth, lights, and/or minor mechanical, I'd jump all over that.

Or if you're a certified master like Pinball Jim and master it in 15 minutes, let me know and I'll buy it from you...after you clean it up that is. ;D
