Title: Rustys UK build 25" CRT cab
Post by: Rusty Shackelford on July 11, 2009, 08:05:51 am
After asking loads of questions I thought it was about time to share my progress with you all.
I would have done this sooner but I had to resize all my photos so I could post them (doh!)
Ok as the title says im in the UK and have had to base my cab around the size of the doors in my house. This threw up a few problems as I was adament about using a CRT tv.

Buliding acab is something I wanted to do for a few years. My brother had been to a party where the guy hosting it had an arcade machine that played hundereds of different games that was powered by a pc. I was totally bowled over! I got Saints book for christmas and also brought Spystlyes arcade build cd.
I know there is alot of opinion on Spystyles cd but personally I think it has been a realy good source of info.

Im mainly a late 80s 1990s gamer. Im a big fan of Simpsons, Mutation Nation, Street Fighter 2, Narc to name a few.

Ive been building mainly in the evenings as I work full time and have a two year old to keep entertained at weekends so progress can be slow at times.

BTW I found a great place for CRT tvs. If you can find a British Heart Foundation shop that has and electrical dept they have load of large, cheap CRT that have all been electricaly tested. Plus you do your bit for charity!
Mine cost me £30 bargin!

The floor pan with my super strong castors (ebay) that will aparently hold 600KG! I chose to spend a bit more on thease as we have a lot of movable benches at work which are fitted with the standard white ones which I think look a bit ugly. Plus I will probably be moving the cab around alot.

Fixed at the back, locking swivels at the front. When I build the cab front I plan on bringing the front panel as low as possible so the locking buttons are just visible/accesible.

Trying it with the 25" CRT tv. ( note Mrs Shackelford behind it holding it in!)
At the mo im building the roof/marquee/speaker housing.
Im using a set of Logitech S-220 2.1 speakers for my sound.

A big thanks to Franco B for sorting me out with some marquee retainer

Any questions/comments please fire away......

I had completely forgotten about that. No worries, your more than welcome. It was only taking up space in my garage. :)

Have you got a theme or colour scheme planned? What controls etc are you using?

Lookng good so far, keep it up

Ive got about 5 themes in mind. Im going to do the cab black I think because im pretty indecisive so if I change my mind about the theme all I have to do is change the marquee and cp picture.

I can draw in illustraor but I will have to look into shading etc as all the work I do is in black and white!

I planning on using 2 J-stiks, 6 button layout, mini-pac and a trackball. Im not to bothered with a spinner as im so used to playing temest with a joypad!
I may also fit 2 SNES control pad adaptors as im a big SNES fan.

Looking good- how is the CP in terms of comfort?  The joystick and buttons look a little far back but it could jet be the angle of the pictures...

Thet do look quite a way back in the pictures. I found it fine for comfort. I think I was concerned about hitting the P2 stick when playing golden tee!
