Title: Need Quick Advice for Small paint job!!!

Ill be painting my Control Panel. It's a small job..like 2'x3'

its 3/4" MDF

Been reading around a lot and getting some mixed ideas..maybe depends on the size of the project..

But Im thinking this is what im going to do..and wanted to see if i was right.
*im using spray paint..not a gun :( it IS a small job*

*Sand The MDF with 600grit

*Use this Primer Spray: http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&productId=100371323&N=10000003+90020

*Sand it off with 220?

*repeat twice

*Spray on 2-3 coats of black

Should i use Flat/Gloss/Semi?

and does that sound about right for the job?

I have future plans for a CPO..but this will have to due for now ;/

Post by: orion on July 02, 2009, 01:31:23 pm: Well, you don't want to sand the primer completely off, but you do want to sand it as smooth as possible with the 220 and clean it with a tack rag between each coat. Most importantly, make sure the MDF is sanded as smooth as possible before you hit it with any paint. If your not particularly good at spay painting, then I would recommend going with the flat paint, as the gloss paint will show every imperfection in your paint job. Personally I try to avoid painting whenever I can.

Post by: thecheat on July 02, 2009, 04:38:58 pm: It also might be easier just to get one of their tiny rollers and a pot of paint. They also sell these little plastic dodads that are flat with a synthetic fluff on the other side - sort of like a roller that has been cut and flattened. Rub it in some paint and it goes on VERY smoothly.
