Title: Nintendo cab with a rotating monitor, has anyone done it ?
Post by: Level42 on June 19, 2009, 07:22:04 pm
After playing a couple of games of DK on a 48in1 I really got the itch to be able to play a number of my PCB sets in my Nintendo cab. I've got DK, DKjr (bootleg), Popeye(bootleg) and of course MB.

Now of course MB and Popeye or horizontal, but I also want to be able to play DK on the  same machine. So that will require the CRT to be rotating.

The space is pretty limited I'd say. THe cab is 60 cm. wide on the outside, so let's say it's 56 inside. The CRT (in theory !) is 19" diagonal, but of course there's the mounts etc. Let's say 20" which is 50.8 cm. So, in theory it should be possible.

Has anyone done a rotating monitor inside a Nintendo cab ?
Anyone who has a rotating monitor in another cab, how much room will the mechanism require ?
Any pics of suitable mechanisms. I bet it needs to be as compact as possible.....

Thanks !

I've layed my Nintendo down on it's side before...... does that count?

that cab sounds about as wide as the galaxian I modified; I'm sure you remember that.  My biggest hurdle was the diagonal width of the monitor, which meant I'd need to rip out the original monitor supports to make enough room for things to clear.  I also had to rip a space out of the bottom monitor support just above the control panel for the diagonal to turn.  I put a 21" 4:3 monitor in mine, and that's as big as you could get period.
