Many of the classics don’t really have endings, but what arcade game was the first that you finished?
It counts as the end even if it just starts over or reaches a kill screen.
The first game I can remember completing is Operation Thunderbolt with a friend.
My first solo was completing the original Street Fighter II with E.Honda from beginning to end.
-
Probably SF2 for me as well, followed by Contra or maybe Robocop
-
Rastan
-
They have endings?
-
Rastan
You suk!
I remember wasting my money trying to reach the end of Rastan, Rolling Thunder and Bagman. At the time 5 bucks to a 7th grader was a lot of money($5=$6 worth of tokens) so I only allowed myself 4 tokens per game.
Double Dragon was the only one I ever solved in the arcade.
(not counting the games in the 90s&00s, when I had the money and the games didn't seem to have as many levels.)

We went to a convenience store daily one summer and played it until it was beaten. It took a LOT of work (especially when you're not allowed continues on the last stage, just like Rygar).

Commando. Am I the only dork in the world that sucks at Street Fighter?

Yes. Yes you are. :duckhunt

Operation Wolf (which I now own).

I owned a freakin SF2 CE for almost a year. I turned down the difficulty all the way and could still only get to like the 4th fight. I'm the same way shooting pool, no matter how much I play, I still suck.
EDIT: The day I brought SF2 home, I was taking yet another ritual beating and I shouted 'Gosh, I suck at this'. My son, who was 5 at the time said 'yeah and it's so easy for me'.
-
Golden Axe or Crime Fighters I believe.
-
Golden Axe and 1944.
-
Oldest was Sunset Riders, but I've only completed a few and they were also 90s and 00s games. I remember Carnevil, SF III, and Time Crisis III. All were with help on player two.
-
Damn, now I feel inferior :-\
I don't think I've ever actually "finished" a game like that.
Now I really need to get this cab built ;)
-
Double Dragon, I think. I used to bowl on saturday mornings as a kid and I remember getting to the end with my cousin then having to kick his ass to finish the game. Good Times!
He and I used to try to finish SilkWorm (used to LOVE that game) but after we dropped like 10 bucks EACH into it in 1 sitting we gave up, I later found out the game never ends, the bastids.
-
Bombing Mission on Mach 3.
Other memorable 1 quarter finishes:
Super Mario Bros. (no warps) - and I never played the NES version. I used to walk to the 7-11, buy a New York Seltzer, and get 1 quarter with the change. Quarter dropped into SMB, and 45 min. later I'd walk back home.
Shinobi - Was the only machine I ever held all the top scores on at my "neighborhood" arcade.
-
Commando. Am I the only dork in the world that sucks at Street Fighter?
Yeah, cos I'm not a dork. I just suck at it. (Actually, I have a special dispensation. I just don't care for the game.) Anyways, I've never played a game long enough to finish it. Either I'm not interested in it enough to sit for aeons and master it, or with continues I get bored.
-
none.
But my goal is to 'clock' Asteroids since it goes back to zero after 99000. Im sure some people here have done that ad infinitum. I'll be happy for it to go to zero and then i run out of ships. That will be the first game 'finished' for me (",)
-
METAL SLUG!
and any of the soul calibre/soul blade games.

Oh, you're a dork...the first sympton is denial. The second is that you post here.

Hahahhahahah.

Dragons Lair
-
double dragon

i feel dismayed that so many of you have finished arcade games, especially the older ones with no 'continues'. Commando? Wow, I love that game and I've only rarely made it to the 3rd screen! In fact, right now i can't even remember what that screen looks like! Guess I'm going to be giving that game a good thrashing when i get my cab going again...
-
I believe the third screen was the trenches and the forth was the airbase, but I wouldn't swear to that. I did get to the end last week on MAME after about 25 tries. BTW, you can't continue on that one.
Circle K on Reno and Douglas, Midwest City, OK...had all 10 high scores on it at once. Dumped a few bucks in that one.
