Title: UH, What did I do? Monitor died
Post by: Hoagie_one on April 24, 2009, 01:40:43 am
Jamma cab with jpac + arcade VGA

Just got the new mame cab set up and I was messing with the h-hold to try to get some more real estate on the monitor.  I turned the h-hold knob a little far to the right.  I got a scrambled picture, then a squeal, then the monitor died.  It wont power up now.

What Did I do and how can I fix it?

Make/model of the monitor in question?

Turn the H hold back all the way and power it back up.  I have a monitor that does the same thing.

Nope, you just triggered the protection circuit.  Scary at first though...isn't it?

RCA had a chassis that the hfreq could be pulled off far enough to trigger shutdown.
the "fun " part was everything was menu driven. the set had to operate to adjust anything.

only way to restart under that condition , was to detune the h output ( add a cap to hot) then adjust h freq.
sometimse, had to do so with a severly corrupted eeprom..... (ctc177 )
